Bo's POV:
That day in practice the coach ripped up every part of the team's pride. "Y'all aren't playing like a team! Football is a team sport not a me sport!" He yelled furiously. Days like these made Bo want to pack all his stuff up and quit, but he never would because of the passion he had for this sport. He'd been around long enough to learn that the coaches always laid off after a win.
After practice he went into the weight room to blow off the tension from practice. Ever since Bo topped the social ladder it had become the only place he was just Bo Smith. He wasn't the head cheerleader's boyfriend or one of the best on the team or a senior. He was just Bo. Checking his phone he saw that his "girlfriend" Bailey had sent him twenty messages about some party with the squad that he just had to go to. Bo hated parties with Bailey and her team, but he'd never not go. Despite everything he didn't want to hurt her. Responding to her messages with "sounds good babe" he plugged his headphones in and began his workout.Nova's POV:
She hated drivers ed. She hated it so much she'd rather take another math class. The teacher was the football coach, and since class began after practice he always came in with an energy foreign to everyone else. It drove Nova crazy how late she'd get home from class. Like she didn't have anything better to do than sit here for 2 hours learning about safe driving. The worst part was that there were still two weeks left.
She wasn't angry about the class tonight though. She was angry because that day in English Andre had become public enemy number one. All throughout class he had a smart comment about everything Nova would say. Her day basically ended when Andre told her he didn't care about her and he probably never would. In that moment Nova had never wanted to escape to summer more. She had to shake off the summer funk. Nova couldn't afford to lose herself in Robert's memory today.Bo's POV:
An hour had passed by the time Bo finished his workout. He knew he needed to go back to his apartment and clean up or do homework or even submit himself to 2 hours of Bailey talking about their practice today, but Bo didn't want to go home. He knew the coach was still here teaching drivers ed and he'd kill Bo if he interrupted. Instead of going home, he sat in his car for 20 minutes. The class had to be on break now, so Bo began to pull around to the back of the school.Nova's POV:
Breaks during drivers ed were the worst part of the class. Who teaches for an hour and has a twenty minute break? A football coach obviously. Ever night she watched as the vending machines were attacked by her classmates, and tonight was no different. After the masses had cleared the area, Nova went to buy a diet Pepsi. Stepping out into the cool September night, she pulled out her phone and earbuds. Choosing Sam Hunt's cover of Come Over, Nova sat on one of the benches in the front. She thought about everything from Robert to what she was going to watch on TV that night. Nova was so engrossed in her thoughts she didn't see the white car that was leaving stop halfway out of the drive way. And she didn't see Bo Smith get out and walk to her.
