This is an AU based off countless of roleplays I had and is the first fanfic I wrote in a long time. Enjoy.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you...

Shadow laid upon the tiles of the Dark Mirror's room, his mind falling in and out of consciousness. The reality of this horrid situation crept upon the young shade, too quickly for him to process any of this... Was it some bad dream? Yes, hopefully, because at least he would be able to escape such a horrid fate... But alas, the real world would return soon enough, with his misery and agony praying upon him once more.
Placing a hand upon the cold stone he winced slightly, feeling the dizzying pain hit him, coursing through his entire body. Had... had he been unconscious this whole time? 'Okay, first things first... what happened?' The demon had thought, allowing his bloody orbs to trail across the scene. His eyes landed upon a mess of black shards, confusion scrawled upon his pale features... and his stomach dropped at the terrifying realization. The mirror had been shattered, its pieces scattered all around in a chaotic array. No wonder he felt so... so weak. Without it, his connections to the Physical Realm and Shadow World would diminish... and the flow of magic that had gave him life would be cut, returning him to the darkness. And Vaati! No, his master would be defeated as well... Gathering the energy he could, Shadow filled his lungs with air to cry out. Though, the face of a man he once knew and loved appear, and that was enough to cut him off...

'Cause I'll forget, but I'll never forgive you...

"I see your still alive, my dear Shadow." The violet knight purred, a faint smile (or was it a smirk...?) gracing his features. Cerulean orbs glittered in curiosity, as if he was wondering why his once beloved companion managed to stay alive, despite the fact his master was defeated once more. "It's strange, seeing the once mighty fall upon weak knees."
"Silence yourself.." the young beast managed to spat, his crimson gaze begining to burn like like embers. He was enraged by the loss, and the mockery Vio had brought forth. Why...? Why could he never win anything? He wanted to be noticed, not seen as just a shadow trailing along behind, following their cover's movements like a puppet... he was sick of being played, and wanted to take a shot at the top... though, he was given a trump card and the next thing he knew, he was looked down upon once more, this time with a humiliating defeat. Especially from the man he once had loved, once trusted. "It's kind of sad, seeing how we could have had something. Though, you ended up betraying me for those imbeciles. We could have ruled this land together, bu--"
"I told you once, and I'll tell you again. I was never on your side. There was never 'we will rule together', no Shadow.... we aren't the kings in your sick fantasies and I... never did love you."

Don't you know? Don't you know...?

He stared at the other, eyes widened and begining to flood with a cascade of tears. "Y-you  never--... it makes much more sense, why you betrayed me with such ease... heh, you're the lowest of the low, even more twisted than myself." The shadowy being paused for a few moment. He forcefully swallowed the lump that had form in his throat, from all the emotions that hit him at once. Shadow lower his gaze to the ground, letting loose a waterfall of tears. "Heh... I just hope you're happy with yourself, playing with my emotions.."
"Anything for the sake of Hyrule and Princess Zelda.." the violet clad hero responded, a faint frown begining to tug upon his lips.
"To Hell with you and your princess!" Shadow cried out in rage, his tears still freely flowing. After a few more sobs, his voice began to slowly break from the overwhelming pain. "I loved you, dammit... so much... doesn't that mean anything..?"
Vio moved his gaze away from the other, almost as if he was ashamed of what lengths he had to go through... but the safety of Zelda surpassed his own. She was royalty, and he'd always be the knight resting at her feet, almost like a dog... obeying every command, even if it sent him to his own grave, whether physically, or emotionally.
Like in this situation.
"Can you at least answer me this...?" The shade managed to choke out, trying to stop his crying.
"What is it?" He asked, his voice holding a stern edge, like it always had. Though, slight sorrow had managed to sneak its way through.
"Were we ever friends..?"
He parted his mouth to answer the purple-haired boy  but no words seemed to have passed, no matter how much effort he put. He did care for him, he did, after all, they had grown rather close when he had joined Vaati's side. Though, he never could love him like a partner, he did care for him dearly... he had to push it away, all of the care he harbored must be forgotten, since he was an enemy. Nothing more, nothing less... right?
"Let my actions speak for me, Shadow." And with those mere words, he neared the demon, pinning him to the ground with his foot. Time seemed to freeze for both of them in that exact moment, with pure terror carved upon Shadow's face. Once more, Vio looked away, before taking his sword and plunging it into the other's back. Everything seemed to move so slowly for the Hero, as if this was a dream, or even worse... a nightmare. Though, the inhuman screech the other let loose pulled him back to this cruel reality. He twisted the blade quickly, wanting to end the shade's suffering quicker. It was more pain, yes, but it would be a quicker death.
"I'm sorry."
"I'll... take that a-as a 'no'... b-backstabbing traitor..."

True friends stab you in the front....

..............

"Hey Vio! What ever happened to Shadow Link?" Red chirped in his usually peppy tone, curiosity gleaming in his sky-blue eyes.
"He's gone... it's a long story." He murmured in response, sorrow evident in his voice. With all the events that had happened, its only natural he'd be quite upset.
"What happened?" The crimson hero pressured the other to continue, wanting to hear more of the story.
"Just.... I wasn't a true friend."
