Brenda and Teresa sat together at that table for much longer than it took them to finish their drinks. They just couldn't seem to stop talking about anything and everything. Brenda had already learned so much about Teresa, she felt like she'd known her for much longer than a couple of days.
They talked about Teresa's family. She was adopted when she was a child, both her parents died of sickness when she was young. Her and her adopted parents got along really well though.
Teresa had mentioned that she found out that she was adopted was because of her science teacher. He was saying that parents that both have brown eyes can't have kids with blue eyes, but both of Teresa's parents had brown eyes, so she asked them and it turned out she was adopted.
Conversation drifted on to different things, Teresa's mom's dancing career, Brenda's uncle, Teresa's cat, and a lot more. But then the conversation eventually drifted towards relationships when a cute couple sat at the table behind Brenda.
"So, do you have a girlfriend?" Brenda asked, remembering the conversation they had at the end of the last dance class.
"No," Teresa sighed. "My friends Sonya and Harriet are dating, and every time I look at them I get intense wish-I-had-that feeling."
"Yeah, I get it." Brenda laughed.
"Oh, so your single too?" Teresa's eyes widened in shock.
"No actually, I have a boyfriend." Brenda told her, hesitant to bring up Aris. But Teresa would eventually find out, so there was no point to lying and pretending he didn't exist.
"Ooh, what's his name?" Teresa asked, leaning across the table and nearly tipping over her empty cup.
"Aris." Brenda said, trying to hide how much she wished they weren't talking about him.
"What's he like?" Teresa continued to question.
"Umm, nice I guess." Brenda started, not sure how much of the truth she should tell.
"Thats specific." Teresa laughed.
Brenda thought her laugh was one of the prettiest things she'd ever heard. Like tiny chimes banging together in the wind.
"Yeah, I don't know, things aren't as good as they used to be. But I love him." Brenda assured herself more than Teresa. Did she still love him? He certainly didn't love her, or at least didn't show it.
They dropped the conversation pretty quickly after that and continued talking about other things but eventually the two girls had to go different ways. Teresa's phone went off, and she started getting her stuff together.
"Where are you going?" Brenda asked, wishing she didn't have to leave so soon.
"LGBTQIA meeting." Teresa shrugged. "You said your brother was gay right? He should come!"
Brenda considered it.
"Yeah if we could go to my house yo get him I'm sure he'd love to go with you." She shrugged.
"You should come too!" Teresa told her.
A confused expression worked it's way onto Brenda's face.
"But I'm not LGBTQ... What were the rest?" She asked.
"Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual. LGBTQIA" Teresa told her.
"Yeah, I'm not any of those things." Brenda said. "And the A is for asexual, not ally."
"That doesn't matter, straight people come all the time. One of Newt's friends comes to almost every meeting." Teresa smiled.
"Okay, we'll get Thomas and go." Brenda smiled back.
