- Ponyo and Sosuke : Ponyoー
Ponyo sighed as she dreaded over the pages of her workbook, the ones that had been assigned at least a week ago, but she had stalled to do until recently.
Her hair had grown into long, wavy red locks reaching down to her lower back, her eyes large and beautiful, resembling black pearls only able to be found in the deepest depths of the ocean. She had light porcelain skin and rosy lips and cheeks, however, her only imperfection being her petite size. Though she had some curves and wasn't lacking shape, her body's proportions were small for a fourteen year old. She stood at five feet, weighing 102 pounds. However, though she was small, she was known for her healthy appetite.
Lisa and Koichi, Sosuke's parents, had given Ponyo a room of her own, which was located upstairs along with everyone else's. It was small, painted light blue, and decorated with tons of ornaments representing the ocean and the beach, reminding her of where she came from.
But one thing had changed. Though Ponyo had grown up to be a beautiful human teenage girl, another thing had also grown... her feelings towards Sosuke. They were now in their last year of Junior High in the small Japanese sea-side town, the ninth grade exactly. The only problem with this was Ponyo's exotic appearance. Because she had realized she was in love with Sosuke, she hung around him more than a lot, the way she looked only attracting an abundance of attention.
She was cheerful at heart and extremely friendly, but for reasons unknown to Ponyo, no one would accept her as their friend. Sosuke, on the other hand, had become quite popular, his friends always teasing him whenever he was around her.
But his response was always the same; a sigh and a shake of the head before shoving his hands in his uniform pockets, walking off with the rest of his friends.
The girls at school, their hair color varying from chocolate brown to jet black, their eyes plain and dull and without sparkle unlike hers, all hated Ponyo for her looks. They knew she was beautiful, and they knew she definitely wasn't a normal Japanese ninth-grader, and because of that, being around her overwhelmed them with jealousy.
-
Sosuke opened the door to Ponyo's room with a blank expression on his face as he looked down at her. He let out a sigh as he walked in and examined her room, looking first at the nightstand. There was a jar on top of it with a small bouquet of wild flowers inside. He shook his head.
"That was the same jar I pulled you out of, was it not," he asked.
Ponyo nodded her head in response, her face going red as she looked up at him.
"I need to copy your homework, Ponyo..."
"Yeah! Sure, Sosuke..." She smiled as she hurriedly finished the last problem on the page, then handing it to Sosuke. He had grown up almost fully now. He was five feet nine inches, and had experienced puberty completely, which effected him for the better. He took the book, and only with a quick "thanks" did he leave the room.
Ponyo was left dissatisfied for the night.
She'd hoped maybe he'd sit down for a conversation, but apparently not. He hadn't done that in at least five years.〜
The next morning Ponyo awoke by shaking her hair out and looking over at the jar of flowers Sosuke had commented on last night. She walked into the small bathroom connected to her room and got ready before tying her hair into two long braids and slipping on her school uniform, then pulling up her knee-high stockings. She ran downstairs, where she was greeted by Lisa and Sosuke, Lisa's expression rather solemn and disappointed.
"Why're you looking so down, Lisa-san...?"
Lisa looked over at her son. "Sosuke, tell Ponyo-chan what you told me just now."
Ponyo felt her heart rate increasing. What if it was something she'd be better off not hearing...? She hated conversations like these... absolutely hated them.
"Ponyo, I'm taking Kumiko-san out to a movie tomorrow. You remember her, right? She was in our class last year."
"Kumiko-san... the one who insulted me when I was a fish and still makes fun of me to this day? Yes, of course I remember her!"
Ponyo quickly stood up from her seat and slipped on her shoes, then taking a piece of bread from the table and throwing her fried egg on top of it along with a piece of ham. She glared over at Sosuke with tears welling up in her eyes. "It's not like I care, anyways! Why would I when you haven't talked to me unless you wanted homework answers for the past five years?!"
Ponyo slammed the door behind her and ran to the bottom of the cliff, the same place where she and Sosuke first met. When she had first left the house, she could hear Lisa's anger behind her. Questioning Sosuke, asking questions like, "Is that true?!" and "Have you really been ignoring the poor girl this entire time, Sosuke?!"
Ponyo could only finish the makeshift breakfast near the shore, her head laying against the rocks as she felt the tears stain down her cheeks.
〜
Sosuke sighed as he stared at the door Ponyo slammed 20 minutes before. Lisa had went out searching for Ponyo, but Sosuke had no desire to go to school after such a stressful morning.
He rested his chin on his fist and let out a sigh.
How the hell could she not see how much he loved her?He sighed. His eyes closed, and with a heavy breath, he tried to remember where Ponyo would most likely be hiding. While it was true he had been taking Kumiko out, it wasn't for the reason one may believe.
While it was true she was head over heels for Sosuke, he never liked her. In fact, he felt very bitterly towards her for leading the bullying pranks against Ponyo.
He hurriedly stood up out of his chair and ran outside. Taking a deep inhale of the soft, salty ocean-side air, he knew where he had to go.
The place they first met.
〜
The red-headed girl skipped rocks in the gently flowing water. She had finished her crying, and was now considering running away back to her home. But she knew she couldn't. She was a human girl now, just a human girl with human capabilities and human feelings.
Feelings that never seemed to do her any good.Rocks trickled down the side of the cliff, and it was then she noticed Sosuke.
Wait, Sosuke?!
She quickly stood up and turned around. She considered jumping into the water and dying right then and there, but how could she when he was giving her that look?
"Ponyo..."
"P-Please, Sosuke! Just leave me alone! I cannot do this right now..."
"Ponyo, look at me, please."
"You don't need me to look at you... Kumiko's got that covered..."
Suddenly, she felt his hands on her shoulders. Sosuke turned the red headed girl around to face him, and immediately, he pressed his lips against hers. Ponyo struggled in his grasp, but Sosuke wouldn't let go.
"S-Sosuke, were too young for this, stop it!" Ponyo cried, her face as red as a tomato.
"No, Ponyo... you're fourteen, and I'm fifteen... we're not too young... we're the same age, too.. it's okay..." He cut himself off by kissing her lips again, smiling as he looked up at Ponyo, whose eyes were closed and her expression somewhat content.
"I'm sorry.. I... I loved you the whole time..."
"Then why did you ignore me..."
"Being around you made me go crazy... I wanted to just kiss you right then and there but.. I... I wanted to get experience first, so you don't have to experience my sloppy first kisses and hugs and..."
Ponyo cut him off with a kiss, and a wide grin spread across her face.
"Baka."
