Stay Behind

Y/N

You were one of those odd kids who didn't mind school; no you didn't have something wrong with your head. You just enjoyed learning new things and you excelled in all of your subjects, even sport. You had your favourite teachers and not so favourite teachers. In order from top to bottom were; Christian or CC as he liked students to call him who taught drama, Jeremy or Jinxx as he liked students to call him who taught history, Ashley who taught music, Jake who taught art and lastly was Andy who taught English.

You liked English but you just didn't seem to be able to pay attention to what Andy was saying sometimes. It was like the words just fell off the page, you couldn't seem to grasp the basics. You always tried to keep your head down in his lessons and usually, it worked and he didn't call on you. But today was different as he walked around the room handing out the marked tests from last week.

When he got to your desk at the back of the class he sighed heavily as he dropped the paper on the desk. You gulp as you notice a big D written across the top, it was your lowest grade. Andy leant down next to you.

"I think you should stay behind after class y/n. We need to talk about your grades."

You nod in defeat and slip the paper into your bag and attempt to pay attention for the rest of the class.

When the bell rang the rest of the class gathered up their books and bags and filtered out of the classroom while you stayed behind and made your way slowly towards Andy's desk. He looked up from his laptop and smiled, motioning for you to take the desk in front of his own.

"So do you want to tell me y/n why your grades have been slipping in my class? You use to be good at English."

You shrug your shoulders and fold your arms across your chest, "I don't know, I mean when I see words on the page they seem to jumble and slide off the page. I had an accident last month and my head got slightly knocked."

Andy sighed and stood up before coming around to sit on the edge of your desk, "I hate seeing you struggle y/n. If you need extra help then I want to be there for you, I want to build your grades back up."

"I think I'm beyond help Andy."

Andy shook his head and smiled warmly before patting your shoulder, "you're not beyond help y/n. We're going to schedule extra lessons after school; we'll go through the texts one by one and not move on until you understand. Would you like that y/n?"

You smile and nod, "thank you, Andy, no one has ever actually bothered to care. My parents just see the bad grades and call me dumb."

"They are wrong y/n. Now, how about we schedule the first lesson for after school today?"

You nod again, "that would be great Andy."

"Okay then, meet me here when the bell goes and we'll go over Hamlet first."

You get up and sling your bag over your shoulder while Andy goes back to his laptop. You were happy that you were going to get help; maybe Andy had just gotten himself higher on your list of favourite teachers. Maybe now you could improve and make your parents proud.
