John nodded slowly

Dirk stared, gaping. John Egbert had said yes. Dirk was now, as of ten seconds ago, in a relationship with John Egbert.

John squirmed, "If you keep your mouth hanging open longer, I'm gonna think this is a prank..."

"I would never do such a thing." Dirk muttered quietly. John shrugged and looked down. "OK...uh..."

John was currently feeling some excitement. Dirk was a nice guy. Probably wouldn't push John if John put his foot down. But at the same time...HE WAS A GUY.

"Are you OK?" Dirk asked.

"Why wouldn't I be?" John shrugged.

"Cause you're kinda homophobic."

"...I'm not homophobic." John grumbled.

"Yeah. Yeah you are."

John scowled, "Moving along."

Dirk nodded quickly, "Alright. Um. We should probably discuss...boundaries."

"Boundaries?" John frowned, "What do you mean?"

"What you're comfortable with. Mostly physical stuff." Dirk shrugged. "Hugs, kisses, touching, etc."

"Ohhhh." John nodded, "Um...I dunno about kisses. We can try kisses but I dunno. Hugs...um...those should be fine?"

Dirk nodded, "Alright. If I do something and you don't like it, tell me, OK?"

"Alright!" John smiled a bit. Dirk's gaze softened at John's smile and he held his hand out. John reached out slowly before holding Dirk's hand. His hand was warm. "So...what now?"

Dirk shrugged, "Well, we set up a first date. We talk and get to know each other."

John sat on the edge of his bed, "OK. Uh...wanna sit beside me?" Dirk nodded and sat down. "So, uh, whaddya wanna talk about?"

"Well, how about we set up our first date?"

"OK. Um, when's," John rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand- Dirk still had his other one, "when would be a good time?"

Dirk thought about it, "I don't want to rush it, so how does next week sound?"

John nodded, "Sounds good. Really good."

Dirk was quiet for a few moments before replying, "Alright then."

They sat in a strangely comfortable silence for quiet a few minutes. John eventually yawned and his head dipped forward. Dirk shifted and reached out, "John, you can rest your head on my shoulder for a few minutes if you're tired."

John mumbled sleepily, "OK." He leaned and dropped his head onto Dirk's thigh, curling up and yawning. Dirk watched him start to doze off. He gently stroked John's soft black hair and John smiled sleepily. Dirk grabbed a nearby blanket and draped it over John.

John woke up after a few hours, Dirk just talking to no one. He lifted his head and yawned, "Who ya talking to?"

Dirk glanced down, "Hal."

"Hal?"

"He's...difficult to explain. I strongly recommend you don't talk to him." Dirk admitted.

"Why not?" John sat up and adjusted his glasses.

"He's an asshole."

"Great." John sighed. "Just glad to know you're not talking to thin air."
