"In love, I've always been a mercenary but I never leave my post when the cash runs out"
(Amelia's POV)
"Amy, are you awake?"I hear Oswald whisper from his cell, making sure that he didn't wake Sarah up. According to him, this was the first night where she had fallen asleep without crying. Oswald hated the fact that he couldn't comfort his wife when she was this upset, which is why he would always spit on Hush's face when he came in. He was too weak to do anything else.
"Yes Oswald. Is something wrong?"I ask hurriedly as he shakes his head, sitting up against the cold metal bars.
"I'm fine. However since we might not have an opportunity alone after your villain boyfriend saves the day, which by the way is completely ironic, I wanted to tell you the story of when Mother first met Sarah."Oswald whispers, looking over at his sleeping wife with an anxious look in his eyes
"In case I'm mistaken, Sarah and I had met your mother before. I remember that ended with a twelve year old Sarah vomiting on your mother's dress and your mother stating that she never wanted to see Sarah again as long as she lived on this earth. What's your point?"
"That's not what I mean, Amy. I'm referring to when they met right before I asked your sister to marry me. It was actually the first time they met since that incident when we were children. Usually, as you know, I would take my girlfriends to meet Mother as early as possible because I wanted her to like them. She was the only deciding factor of whether or not I stayed with that girl. Helena, Diana, and Francine all met Mother and were instantly disliked by her so I just broke up with them. But Mother 'met' Sarah when I had already been with her for a year. Needless to say, she was both infuriated at the fact that I waited a year to introduce her to my girlfriend and at the fact that I was in love with the same girl that had disrespected her many years ago."
"Why wait a year then? You tell your mother everything that isn't related to your arms business. Why avoid telling her about the love of your life?"I ask, wondering where Oswald was going with this
"Because Sarah is the love of my life and I knew that Mother would force me to break up with her, which I desperately did not want to do. Think about it, Amy. I never wanted a committed relationship because it was too much of a gamble. You know that. So this was a big deal to me, and I didn't want to do anything that would risk it not working out. I actually fought Mother on the topic when she told me that she didn't want me seeing Sarah. I told her that even though I loved and respected her with all of my heart, I was not going to leave my soulmate to make her happy."Oswald says, a lonely tear streaming down his face.
"How did your mother react to her darling son telling her that he wasn't doing what he was told? I can't imagine well."I ask, remembering a time when Oswald refused to wear a suit that his mother had gotten him because it was too small and how hysterical she got, stating that Oswald didn't love her and that he was going to eventually leave her for a painted lady of the night. Needless to say, Oswald caved to his mother's wishes and ended up ripping the suit when he attempted to fix his pant leg. And it didn't end well for Oswald, who spent a month trying to make it up to his mother.
"Mother began to cry hysterically and said that your sister was stealing her precious son away from her and that Sarah would not be welcomed into her family if she did not respect the boundaries of mother and son. Sarah then asked my mother if she knew anything about her and her relationship with me. She said that she did not want it to seem that she was taking me away from Mother because she knows how closely bonded we are, and that she loves me just as much as Mother does. She even went as far as to say that if Mother truly didn't want her to be with me, she would understand. I don't think I have ever seen my Mother get so quiet. She wasn't expecting Sarah to talk back mainly, nor did she expect her to be so selfless. I told Mother that she didn't have to love Sarah immediately but she should give her a chance to get to know her better. It took a month but she accepted that fact that I was going to get married to the love of my life. Now she loves Sarah almost more than she loves me, which is saying a lot. Especially with a baby on the way."Oswald says, taking a breath
