"Tell me what you want to hear, something that was like those years. Sick of the insincere, so I'm going to give all my secrets away."
(Jonathan's POV, two months later)"You know, it doesn't get any easier if you stand there and watch her, Doctor Crane."Victor says as he walks up behind me and puts a calming hand on my shoulder. I look at Amy in the cytogenetic freezer and sigh, knowing that he was right. With Batman's help, we reached Freeze's lair in the nick of time and since he already had the materials on hand, it was easy enough to make her like Nora. She was frozen in time, in between life and death. And I have to think of a way of saving her. Talk about the irony.
"How did you deal with it at first? Making Nora like... this."I ask quietly, not sure what to say
"Do you want the truth or a lie to make you feel better?"Freeze asks, looking over at his wife in the freezer with sadness in his eyes
"Just give me the truth. It can't be worse than this."
"Truth be told, you can't deal with it. Not like you want to. It's something that's going to stay looming over your head until you find a way to get her out."
'Why did you put her in here? Sure she's not suffering but you're delaying her inevitable death.'
Oh of course Scarecrow wants to give his opinion.
'Unlike you, I actually have some hope in the situation. This just buys me the time I need.'
'To avoid dealing with her death. If you really wanted to, you could just let me take over. Makes the pain go away...'
"So how do you deal on the days you need her?"I ask, leaning against the wall next to me
"I think about something I know she would say. Sure, she didn't want me becoming a super villain in order to help her but I think about a specific moment with her where I was happy. Where she was okay and not dying of a rare cancer."Victor says, pausing for a moment.
"It's going to take a miracle, you know? Her lung and heart were damaged beyond repair. She was a goner no matter what. You did good by bringing her to me.""Sometimes I wonder if you're right. Wouldn't death be more peaceful than being frozen in time?"
"You're wondering if you're being selfish for keeping her alive, are you not? You're not, though I know why others see it that way. You just want the best for her. Amelia dying at the hands of Harvey Dent would not be at all respectful for who she was. She doesn't deserve that punishment. So no. You're not being selfish. Especially when you know why she even took the bullets."Freeze says while looking at our loves, a sad look on his face
"They were meant for me. He was going to kill me, and she had to get in front of me."I say, shaking my head angrily. Victor looks at me and sighs understandably.
'As much as I hate saying this, it's because she loved you. Well us. She wanted to protect us from a painful death.'
'I should have been the one who was protecting her. It's my fault as to why she's even like this.'
"You should go home, Jonathan. You can come back tomorrow when you're feeling up to it."Freeze says, standing up
"Oh come on, Victor. I'm perfectly fine."I say, lying through my teeth
