i want to be your friend.

Everyday I get on the subway and I see her face. I never really thought about talking to her or anything. I was never the type to approach a woman, never felt confident enough. Sometimes she would have her earphones in and sing along to whatever she was listening to and then look around, blushing at herself, hoping no one was watching.

Sometimes I didn't even know I was watching her. Sometimes she'd catch my gaze and I'd nervously run my hands through my curls. I don't know why I did it. It just tended to make me feel calm.

She always sat in the same spot and I guess people began to notice because her seat would always be empty when she got on and I would always be sure to be standing or sitting in a place where I could discreetly watch her. She was always either reading a newspaper or again, listening to her music.

Today was no different than others, like any other day, I stood by a window, watching the subway slow to a stop at the station and she'd was standing behind a crowd of people, always the last to get on. Today it was warmer out so she had on a blouse and a fitted skirt and even though she looked to be barely over five feet, her heels made her appear as if she had legs for days.

One day she caught me staring at her and that was the beginning of our strange relationship. It was a warm day when she got on the subway and that day, she had decided to sit next to me.

"You know, instead of staring at me, you could just say hi." she said, looking at me. What in the hell am I supposed to say?

"Are you always this quiet?" she continued then stretched out her hand. "I'm Nicki by the way."

"Drake." I answered, shaking her hand.

And from that day forward, she would get on the subway, I would hand her a cup of coffee and she would go to her seat. Sometimes we would have conversations with our eyes, laughing at people, talking about people and whatnot and then she invited me to meet her for lunch two weeks after that.

"You're really nice. I don't know why you don't have a girlfriend." she said to me as she stirred a fry in her ketchup. "Do you even have friends that are girls?" she looked at me and I shook my head.

"You have to talk, you have a nice smile. No one is gonna approach you if you don't use it." she said. "Have you even been kissed before?" I think she was asking just for the hell of it because when I opened my mouth and said no, her mouth dropped open.

"Well, on Friday, you're going to come over to my place, and I will teach you everything you need to know about kissing." she closed her to-go box. We had been sitting on a bench in the park, eating lunch and people watching. "I have to get back to work."

"Can I ask you a question?" I looked at her and she stopped what she was doing.

"Sure." her voice softened and she turned to me.

"What do you want with me?" I pulled my glasses off and started cleaning them on my shirt. "I mean, I'm not the kind of guy a woman like you usually hangs out with."

"I just want to be your friend. There's not many genuine people left in the world and I learned that the hard way." she leaned over and kissed my cheek. "I'll see you on the subway." she got up, grabbed her lunch and I watched her walk away.

Wow. She's beautiful.

intimate kisses.

"Okay, take these off." Nicki leaned over and removed my glasses then set them on the table.

"How are you a grown man and never been kissed?" She laughed, remembering our conversation from our first lunch and I blushed. "Are you a virgin Aubrey?"
