I ducked my head and started to turn Hope away as they parked the car and hopped out. But it was too late, they had already seen me.
"Faith! Come back," Dad said, and he and Mom were walking briskly up to the arena.
I slowly walked Hope back to my parents, and I felt really awkward being here. It was me, Hope, Kayla, and my parents. Me, Hope, and Kayla against Mom and Dad.
"What's going on?" Dad asked, obviously confused. He didn't seem angry though, which I was glad for.
"Mr. and Mrs. Daniels, I can explain," Kayla said calmly, and everything was silent.
"I asked Faith to come here a few weeks ago after you said you wouldn't let her ride even at the reduced price. Hope really needed someone to ride her, and I knew Hope needed Faith. So I asked if she could come and ride her for free, and she said yes. I didn't thing you guys wouldn't have liked the idea, so I told Faith I would keep it a secret. She's been walking here about 3-4 times a week and riding Hope. I understand if you are angry with me, and I get why. But in Faith's defense, she has really helped Hope progress, and I think you would be extremely proud of what she has done," Kayla calmly explained, then fell silent. Now it was my turn to speak.
"I'm really sorry I lied to you guys," I said, and I actually was. "I knew you guys wouldn't drive me there or approve of me walking there alone, so I just made up things like going to Gina's so you wouldn't find out," I confessed. I ducked my head. "I understand if you don't trust me anymore, and if I'm never allowed to ride a horse ever again." That last part was hard for me to choke out. I closed my eyes, and I could feel a single tear escape from my eyes, and roll down my cheek. I dismounted Hope, and I gave her a hug, probably the last one I would ever give her. As I squeezed her, she wrapped her neck around me, and I just held onto her. I never wanted to let go.
When I knew it was time to leave, I tried to let go, but Hope wouldn't let me. She kept herself wrapped around me like a wall, refusing to let me leave. I turned my head around to look at my parents, and they're faces weren't mad. They were soft, and Dad said, "Faith, I think we need to talk."
