Chapter 31 - You're Perfect To Me
"I don’t wanna talk to him!” I tell Bradley as he leads me to the cafeteria.
“Don’t you think it’s time you two mended this fight or whatever?” Bradley wonders.
"No! It’s only been a day and I don’t wanna see him.” I stubbornly argue.
“Sydney,” My boyfriend reprimands as we maneuver the crowded school hallways.
“What? I don’t! Can’t you and me just go off campus and have lunch alone?”
“As much as I like that idea, I really think you gotta talk to him.”
“Why must you always try to be the peacemaker?”
"Because if you and Drew don’t fix this, you’ll regret it in years to come.”
“Then let me regret it then.”
“No, I’m not gonna let you do it. Now, come on. Besides, I’m starving.” Bradley reasons.
When Bradley and I walk into the cafeteria, my eyes immediately scan out Drew. He’s not sitting at our normal table. Instead he’s sitting across the cafeteria with his basketball friends. Basketball friends including Reese Logan. He’s sitting with that Darcy girl who he went to homecoming with and he doesn’t look in the least bit distraught.
“See, look at him. He looks fine. We obviously don’t need to talk.”
“Fine, don’t talk. I’m hungry though and you didn’t eat breakfast.”
“I don’t like you when you’re bossy.” I tell him.
“You always like me. Don’t lie to yourself.”
Bradley and I go through the lunch line before heading to our normal seats at our normal table where Tanner, Mikey and Walker are. There’s a petite blonde girl sitting next to Mikey and is Alison is standing next to Walker. He’s not talking to her though. At least she came back home. It’s not really like she had any other option anyway.
“Hey guys,” I greet, pulling out a plastic blue chair and sitting down at our circular table.
“Hey,” The all chorus, stuffing their faces with their lunches. Boys.
"Walker, come on, you’re being ridiculous.” Alison whines, next to Walker.
“Alison, you’re embarrassing yourself. Please go away.” Walker says in an exasperated tone.
“I don’t care if I’m embarrassing myself, besides, I don’t care what your stupid friends think of me.”
“Okay, see this is why we can’t get back together.”
“Because I don’t like your friends?”
“Because you talk shit about my friends and talk to me like I’m stupid and I don’t like it.”
“Walker, you know I don’t think you’re stupid and I mean, if your friends weren’t always around, I wouldn’t talk about them the way that I do.”
