It's been five years and everything is still as wonderful as the day I married Lane. My dad won the custody battle and lives in town. He brings Ethan to stay with Lane and me on the weekends and he's turned into a great kid. Now eleven, the same age I was when dad left, he is in middle school and has a bunch of friends. Not to mention, he does what he's told and cares about others.
Lane and I got our own place close to his mom. She insisted on it being on the property but we really didn't want to be that close. Lane and I also have a two year old son, Pan and we just had our daughter, Lilly. I had the family I wanted. It took a curse to get it but I really couldn't be happier about it.
As I watched Pan stumble over to me as I walked in the door, I smiled. He looked just like his father, he had his forest green eyes and his mud brown hair. Lilly didn't look like either of us yet. Most kids you see it right when they're born but she is keeping it a mystery.
"There you are. I thought I was going to have to call my mother. I have to run out for a little while but I will be back soon. I love you." Lane said, handing Lilly over to me. I gave her a kiss on her cheek before kissing my husband.
"Okay. I'll start dinner." I said as he walked out. "Love you, too." I yelled out.
Will came over and we talked over dinner, waiting for Lane to get back. Lane took over for his father, who forgave him for what happened to his brother Pan and is now living happily with Lane's mother. He realized how he was behaving was awful and he apologized to everyone. Even me.
"I'm so sorry, Winter." He had said to me. "I never should have done that to do." I just smiled.
"There's nothing to forgive. If you hadn't done what you did, I never would have met Lane." I answered.
"Okay, I have to get ready for Ethan to come over and Lane is going to be home any minute. I will have to see you later. I told Will about an hour after she got here. She just laughed and agreed before leaving.
Every fairytale begins with Once Upon a Time right? Or at least they are supposed to? My didn't. Mine started like a fairytale with the evil mother and awful sibling but there was no 'Once Upon a Time' for me. But I did get my fairytale. My father came back and we got Ethan away from my mother.
And best of all, I married the man I never knew I wanted and I had my family. My life is now complete and I couldn't be happier.
