through the celebration of Snape's departure, Harry grabs his temple, wincing in pain.

"Harry..." i say

a slow rumbling fills the hall. i glance up and see dark clouds coagulating in the Enchanted Ceiling. McGonagall follows my gaze, as do others, watching as the clouds shift eerily, like blots of blood.

suddenly, the flames in the torches along the walls tremble as a chill breeze consumes the room. the hall slowly dims. all grows progressively silent when...a girl screams, her voice rising and rising. Harry rushes through the throng, me at his heels, the students part as we pelt forwards, pushing past them until we find the girl, crouched on the floor in the corner, hands over her ears, eyes clenched tight. she seems possessed. everyone watches, chilled. another person screams somewhere in the hall, then another. all are an image of the girl at my feet, grimacing in pain. i stare confused when...

...a voice blooms in my head in a deathly whisper.

"i wish you no harm. i have great respect for the students of Hogwarts. i was once one myself after all. i ask for but one thing and if granted no magical blood shall be spilt...give me Harry Potter. do this and none shall be harmed. give me Harry Potter and i shall leave Hogwarts untouched. give me Harry Potter and you will be rewarded."

with that, the whisper recedes and those in the hall slowly surface back into the prickling ambience of the here and now. above us, the clouds evaporate in the Enchanted Ceiling. and then, like iron filings flaking to the surface of a magnet, every eye finds Harry.

for a moment, silence. then, Pansy Parkinson jabs her finger at Harry. "but he's there! Potter's there! someone grab him!"

i suddenly began having an internal battle with myself. for some reason i seemed drawn to wanting to turn my best friend in to the Dark Lord. maybe this whole war would finally be over and You-Know-Who would just retire in some beach house on the coast. i shake out those thoughts..what am i thinking? this is my best friend!

instictively Ginny steps in front of Harry, wand drawn. suddenly, i feel my legs moving and I'm standing beside Ginny with my wand raised as well. as one, the Gryffindors assemble in a line and face towards the Slytherins, shielding Harry. moments later, the Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs do the same. Harry's eyes glitter at the sight, moved. Ginny lowers her wand.

just then Filch bursts through the door.

"students out of bed! students in the corridor!" Filch yells

"they're supposed to be out of bed you blithering idiot!" McGonagall yells

Filch begins to turn away.

"wait! as it turns out, Mr. Filch, your arrival is most opportune. if you would, i'd like you to lead Miss Parkinson and the rest of Slytherin House from the Hall." McGonagall says

"right away." Filch mumbles. "er' where exactly shall i be leading them to?"

"the dungeons should do."

cheers rise again, McGonagall turns to Harry.

"i presume you have a reason for returning, Potter. what is it you need?" she asks

"time. as much as you can give me." Harry replies

"do what you have to do. i'll secure the castle." McGonagall says

"is that possible, Professor?" i ask

"we teachers are rather good at magic, Miss Wilde. we've even been known to turn out a worthwhile witch or wizard on occasion. i think its time i ask a few of them to take their magic beyond the classroom." McGonagall says looking at me and the rest of the DA members

"i think you're right." Harry says

Harry, turns going to exit.

"by the way Potter...its good to see you." McGonagall says

"you too, Professor." he replies
