Cassie's POV:
I was sure as hell surprised when the acceptance letter came. Me, a poverty girl, going to live with the big leagues for at least a week and possibly longer? Nobody would've thought it. I had ran to my brother and mother, no matter how much I despised them, in pure excitement. "Mom! Caden!" I had cried. My mother looked up at me in disgust. "What do you want?" She had barked at me. "I got into the competition for the ten spots that will move on to Marina University!" I had exclaimed excitedly. "Who cares? It's just another stupid thing that you're going to fail." Caden snapped, looking down at his iPhone 6. I deflated a little. "Doesn't this concern you at all?" I had asked, tears pricking at the corners of my eyes as I knew neither of them cared about me or my wellbeing. "Whatever, I'll just go pack." I had muttered, padding defeatedly back up to my 'room', also known as the dusty old attic where my mother stored all of her old crap. I opened the drawers to my old wooden dresser, packing the small amount of clothes that I had into my worn out blue suitcase. Even though I had been rejected by my cruel family, I had been buzzing with excitement yesterday. And today, I would finally begin the road to proving that I was better than my mother or brother.
