Chapter One: Break In
Cold rain splattered on top of my head, making my hair and clothing stick right to my body. The wind blew, making the leaves on the trees rustle and making the night seem much cooler than it actually was. I pulled the midnight blue cloak I was wearing tighter around myself for warmth, but it didn't help at all.
I wiped the rain from my face, but it was pointless, more rain just fell into my eyes. I attempted to continue my plan anyways, even though it seemed futile to me. The guards standing in front of the huge gates that surround Konohagakure looked bored out of their minds. They must have been slacking off on their jobs. That would be helpful for me. One of the guards appeared to have started to pace back and forth at a quick pace and the other one said something – I was too far away to understand what they were saying, they were speaking too quietly, and I can't read lips.
I hoped that soon they would let their guard down completely. That would be the best way forward for me. I had no identification to show them if I went right through the village gates the way you were supposed to and there was no was I was going to out right challenge them. It would have been suicide, and despite appearances and my lack of showing emotion, I am quite satisfied with my life and don't plan on ending it anytime soon.
The guard that had been speaking to the pacing one turned his back to me. I decided to start moving. Time was of the essence here. I ran as quietly as I possible could, jumping over rocks and anything I thought would make a noise, until the guard turned back around. I froze in mid step and held my breath. Now would not be a good time to be caught. Not a good time at all. Luckily, the guard appeared to have not seen me and I relaxed slightly. That was a close call.
I didn't risk moving again, not until the guard turned his back to me. Or until something else distracted him. My legs were starting to feel stiff from standing in such an awkward position and the rain was still coming down hard, chilling me to the bone. Right now, I wanted nothing more than to find some shelter, start a fire and warm myself up. And maybe some soup would have been nice too. But I didn't give up that easily. I never give up unless I absolutely have to.
I turned my head slightly and was able to see that one of the other guards left – probably to go to the washroom. The other looked like he was about to fall asleep any moment. Pretty soon, his head started to bob up and down from him trying to keep himself awake, but failing.
Once I was pretty sure he had fallen asleep, I made my move – again. This time, I was running slower, but trying my best not to make any sound at all since I had no idea when the other guard would get back. I didn't want to get caught when I was this far along with my plan. So close to completing it.
I was almost home for the first time in my entire life.
Yes, I will admit it may be confusing for someone to consider a place to be their home when they have never been there before in their life, but that's what I do. It's much better than considering a whole entire forest my home when I have lived there for as long as I can remember. From what I know, I have no family besides an older brother, Itachi. He never told me much about our real family, just telling me that we were from the Uchiha clan.
I really don't know why he spoke nothing of our family, but, I have to admit I was curious and couldn't wait any longer to find out. Brother stopped checking up on me ages ago. He had no more control over my life. So once I was sure he wouldn't come back, I came up with my plan to sneak into Konohagakure and find out whatever I could about my family. I really wanted to know.
The walls soon loomed over me. I had to look straight up to be able to see the top of them. They were so high! It would be difficult to climb over the gates, but I was confident enough in my abilities. And if I fell, I would just have to hope that I didn't make any noise and I would try again and again, until the sun began to rise. Then I would continue the next night.
I closed my eyes and focused hard on channeling the correct amount of chakra into my feet. I didn't want to be repelled from the tall gates or fall down. When I was pretty confident that there was enough chakra, I took a running start and started to run up the walls as fast and quietly as I could.
A while ago, my brother had taught me this trick when he was teaching my about how to be a ninja. I was sure he didn't want me to become one since he was cold towards me when teaching me, but I didn't care. I wanted to continue anyways. So, I practiced this in my free time when I wasn't scavenging for food in the woods. It had taken me such a long time to be able to finally reach the top of a tree. I was so happy the first time I had done it correctly, I think I nearly fell from the top of the tree out of sheer joy.
The rain was now splattering directly into my face, making it extremely hard to see. I quickly wiped my eyes free of water for the umpteenth time and I could feel my body starting to get weaker from straining my chakra too much. I hadn't practiced this technique in ages. I should have practiced before this, but I had forgotten.
Eventually, I made it all the way to the top. I was panting and I could feel sweat on my forehead mixing with the rain water. I really should have practiced before doing this. I was out of shape.
I looked down below at my home village. It was so large! There were so many buildings. I couldn't see anyone because it was too late in the night for anyone to be wandering around, but I assumed that if it was midday, there would have been thousands of people out and about. The size of the place shocked me. I had never seen so much civilization before in my life! I took in a deep breath and let it out through my nose. I would have to keep my head. I shouldn't let my guard down in case something did happen to make me seem suspicious.
So I wiped the water out of my eyes again and started my slow descent into the large village.
