The next day the school was bustling with excitement at the prospect of the Yule Ball. Girls were huddled in groups, much to Harry's dismay, chattering about what they hoped would happen on this special night.
I was sitting near the black lake with the trio when Viktor came walking past, obviously trying to impress Hermione, while a group of girls ran after him. When he was gone I looked at Hermione, who was looking rather flustered, and decided that I needed to speak with her about Viktor. Not infront of the two boys though. "Hey 'Mione, could you come with me real quick? I forgot something in my dorm and would like some company." she frowned but nodded. "Yeah sure y/n."
We stood and excused ourselves. "So what's the deal with you and Viktor?" I asked once we were out of earshot. She looked at me surprised, clearly not expecting the question. "What do you mean?"
"Come on 'Mione I'm not blind." I said with a giggle. She blushed and looked down.
"Well..." she said, smiling slightly, "he may or may not have asked me to the Yule ball. But please don't say anything to Harry or Ron! I want to tell them myself."
I smiled and nodded, "I'm happy for you. Viktor may look big and tough but he's really a big old softy. He needs someone like you to keep him on his toes." Hermione giggled and mumbled a 'thanks' as we continued walking and I tried to figure out what I 'forgot' in my dormitory.

"This is mad." Ron whispered, we were sitting in the study hall, supposed to be studying in silence but Ronald has been rambling about the Yule Ball.
"At this rate, we'll be the only ones in our year without dates!" Just as he said it Snap came from behind and hit him on the head with a book causing Ron to emit a muffled groan. He was only silenced for a second before snickering and sayig, "Well, us and Neville." Harry snickered "Then again he can take himself." I lookd up at them dissaprovingly and shoo my head, but before I could say anything, Hermione said, "It might interest you to know that Neville's already got someone."
This caused Ron to gasp and I grinned at his dumbfounded face. He looked down and murmured, "Now I'm really depressed." 
I noticed Fred handing Ron a note, I couldn't read what it said but I could only assume it was something out of line. Ron looked up at him confused and asked, "Who are you going with then?"
This made Fred wiggle has eyebrows and gesture for Ron to watch. He threw Angelina, who was sitting next to me, with a piece of scrunched up paper which caused me to flinch. She looked up at him annoyed and mouthed a 'what?'. Fred started doing strange gestures, pointing to her, then imitating a waltz and then to himself. Basically asking her to the dance. Angelina seemed very flattered and immediately said yes. 
For some reason this exchange made me feel...sad. It was probably only due to the fact that I did not have a date yet and all my friends already did. Yeah - that must be it. 
"Hey Hermione." I suddenly heard Ron say. "You're a girl." Oh. My. Godric. Hermione slowly looked up, astounded by the audacity.
"Well spotted." She said, Harry was trying to warn Ron about an incoming Professor Snape but failed miserably as all three of them got hit in the back of the head. Then Ron made the mistake of continuing to speak.
"It's one thing for a bloke to show up alone." Oh, Ron no please stop. "But for a girl? That's just sad." I facepalmed and Hermione practically boiled over from the anger.
"I won't be going alone, because believe it or not but somebody's asked me!" She said grabbing her books and standing up, she walked over to hand her books to snape and on her way out of the hall bent down next to Ron to grab her supplies, "And I said yes!"
"Bloody hell...she's lying right?" Ron said,
"If you say so." replied Harry.
"Look guys." I said, "Just do it. I don't want to hear anymore about this ball by tonight. Grit your teeth. Do. It." I said, mildly annoyed. Harry and Ron looked at eachother, Ron reached his hand out to Harry to shake, "Agreed?
"Agreed."
