Hello my angels! Are you ready for it? This is the final chapter of At Last Rewritten. Make sure you have your tissues with you. I love you guys and wish I could see your reactions!
The days were long but the years short, too short for Charlotte's liking. One moment she was rocking her baby boy and the next he was running around the backyard. His laughter filled the air and brought the Roberts' much joy. Mia had always assumed their family was complete when he came along, but she quickly realized that wasn't the truth. They'd welcome many more children into their hearts even though they were not their own.
Amelia Jade.
She was Reece and Marjorie's little girl and she quickly became Mia's miniature. Her beautiful red hair and those precious sapphire eyes. Oh and especially the way she'd get upset if she had to wait a moment too long for her food. It was funny in a way, how Reece and Mia's children seemed to resemble each other. To tell the truth, Mia wasn't a natural redhead, she was a blonde and always had been, it's why she constantly kept up on her roots. She didn't like how it softened her look, but Charlotte always thought it was too adorable. She ended up letting a few strands at the front grow out just for her love.
Mia had to double take sometimes when she was tickling her little boy. The way his nose crinkled and he kicked his feet reminded her so much of Reecey. She wondered if this was some sort of second chance gifted to them. They had always protected Autumn when possible but fell short when it came to each other. All of their love and effort was focused on giving Autumn the best childhood they could. It wasn't award winning, but it was what they could do. After all, Reece and Mia were kids too.
They were older now and understood the way they had been pitted against each other. What once was a family, then torn apart, had mended itself back together after all these years. Reece, Mia, and Autumn were the closest they had been in decades. Charlotte often found them bickering like children over the silliest of things, it always made her laugh. Seeing the pure joy on her wife and her best friends' faces was worth listening to their stubbornness all night long. She loved getting to recognize the faces she had seen long ago in Mia's photo albums.
While Mia was not their blood, her soul would forever be tied to the Knight siblings. They had grown up together and were now preparing to grow old with each other. Reece and Mia had always had their dream of raising their children side by side. They knew how Autumn felt about motherhood and how she was still picking up the pieces of her shattered heart from when her own mom left. She didn't blame her mother for leaving, but she'd never understand why she didn't try to take her children with her.
She was the first of many women to have her spirit broken by Roger. Surely she would've known he'd go on to do the same to their son and daughter. Autumn could never wrap her head around why she would've handled things the way she did. She's not sure if she ever will and that's okay, she still loves her. Yet she doesn't wish to change how her life has gone, she lost so much only to receive it tenfold later on in life.
Autumn slept well at night knowing that at least two children like herself and Reece, Elaina and Renee, had been protected. Watching Charlotte go through the same things as her mother had ripped open the age old wound. It was the reason why Autumn immediately took on the girls and gave them a place to escape to. Autumn and Winter saw the girls as their own and had countless sleepovers with them. She wanted them to have a place where they could be free and have fun while Charlotte healed and got back on her feet.
Autumn admired the way Charlotte's love for her children never wavered throughout the devastation of the attack. She may have been stuck in a hospital for months on end, but she spoke with the girls as much as she possibly could. It gave Aut a sense of relief knowing that not all parents were like her own, that unconditional love can be real from a mother to their child. She had many conversations with not just Charlotte, but her daughters and the way the three spoke about each other warmed her heart.
