The back of the auditorium was always quiet during lunch, away from prying eyes and the unnecessary chatter of the cafeteria. Smoke curled lazily from my blunt as I leaned back against the wall, letting the sharp, scent fill my lungs.

I didn't even realize I was smiling until they brought it up.
"Him new girl" Troy teased. "Di man gone soft, mi swear."
"Cho," I said, shaking my head but still grinning.
I slipped the phone back into my pocket and took another hit of my blunt, ignoring their teasing. The bell rang soon after, signaling the end of lunch. We stomped out our spliffs, brushed off our uniforms, and headed back to class.
The school day dragged, but as soon as dismissal came, I was out the gates and into my car. I stopped by sky's school, parking just outside the gates. She walked out with Zoey, her straight uniform skirt swaying slightly as she moved. Her face lit up when she saw me, and she quickly waved goodbye to her friend before hopping into the passenger seat.
"Yuh good?" I asked, leaning back as she buckled her seatbelt.
"Mi good now," she replied, giving me a small smile.

We stopped at Burger King the one in crossroads and got ourselves something to eat I parked in a quiet lot, and we ate in the car, the only sounds coming from the crinkling of paper bags and the occasional honk of a passing car.
