*Apple's POV*
The mourning is my favorite part of day. When the sun peaks through the curtains and the room smells like flowers from last nights clean up.
It's almost pretty enough to distract me from the puking teenager in my bathroom. I don't even know what to say to her. No adults have walked in the room and realized her guts are spilling out her body.
I walk over to the bathroom and stand behind her. I scoop all of her hair out of her way and bend down to her level hoping the little amount of food I had last night doesn't cause horrible morning breath.
Five minutes that feels like hours go past before she sits up and sighs like an old lady.
"Thank you, little girl." I smile at her and scrunch my eyebrows. "Little girl? I don't seem much younger than you."
She chuckles and nods. "I'm 28. And you're 15 so you can do math right?" I widen my eyes and nod.
She doesn't look a day over 16 but she could also pass as 31..if that makes sense. I want to compliment her because of how good she smells and how soft her hair is but I stay quiet assuming she doesn't need to talk anymore than she has to after almost dying in my bathroom.
We're just staring at each other. The comfortable silence makes me realize that she knew how old I was before I even said anything to her or introduced myself.
"Well. Don't you have to get to breakfast?" She smiles at me and crawls over to the tiny bath to lay her head back. "I..do but uh. I don't love the idea of food immediately in the morning."
"That's very true. Food in the morning makes me sick but obviously you know that already." She points to the toilet bowl and proceeds to make a gagging noise as if she is going to puke again.
"What is your name, 15 year old?" She tilts her head to hear me better.
"I'm Apple."
"Eepy?" She asked confused.
"No apple." How did she even get eepy from Apple? "Apple Lee."
"I'm just going to call you eepy. I'm kailyn."
"Kee?" I ask her back to confuse her after pronouncing my name wrong. "Sure baby. You can call me Kee." She smiles wildly at me and I chuckle in defeat.
"Go to breakfast eepy. You need breakfast." Kailyn brings up her arm to flex her muscles which surprisingly are showing. "Milk makes you strong."
I giggle and nod. Crawling to the smooth door handle I try my best to grab it and lift myself up. I make it to the door and start walking down the hallway.
The doors to all the kids my age are open and their rooms are empty. I'm late. Being late shouldn't be a good thing but when you're late the guardians make you sweep after everyone else.
Luckily the kids here aren't messy so I get to sweep for a few minutes and get some alone time while everyone else is doing their thing.
I walk down the stairs while looking down at my white frilly socks. When I look around I see the adults sitting at the table with all us kids playing in the living room.
Most of the kids are little and have their pacis so I walk into the kitchen to ask for mine. I poke the nearest adult and point to the cabinet.
I don't like talking to the adults. I'm known as "silent Lee" or "silent sue". Whatever stupid embarrassing nickname to try and encourage me to speak. "Ah ah. If you want the pacifier you're going to have to ask for it. Just like everyone else."
I place my palm onto my chest and move it in a circular motion to indicate please. Sometimes using sign language works on the guardians. They figure at least I'm trying and give me what I want.
This time it doesn't work. They cross their arms and tap their foot waiting for me. I take a deep breath and muster up the quietest please in the world.
When that doesn't work I just walk into the living room with no paci.
The living room is pretty big to account for there being 15 littles here including me. I crawl to the play pin and grab a pair of headphones out of the music bucket.
I look around for my favorite guardian, Anna, who just happens to be watching over us at the moment. She's not doing anything so I decided to scoot over to her and lay on her shoulder taking a quick quiet nap.
Three hours later
I wake up in my bed to a faint laughing noise. Every littles bedroom in the house looks almost the same. With a full sized bed, and big white comfy couch, and a tv mounted in front of a dresser.
It is very surprising when I see Kee sitting on my couch watching a show. "Hi?" She turns her eyes towards me.
"It's pretty dark out. Why aren't you in your room?" I ask her confused on why she just walked into my room.
"Whatcha talking about? The nurse said you insisted on sleeping in my room. You wouldn't let her put you down unless it was in my bed?"
I look down at the bed and realize my pink floral sheets aren't there. "Why does your room look like a room for a little?"
"The nurses wanted me to have a so called safer lay out." She hums. "You're right. It is pretty dark. You can stay in my room for right now and just walk over to your room in the morning."
I nod and watch her turn of the tv. I drift back to sleep.
A couple minutes later I feel something cause a dent in the bed. I can smell Kee lay down next to me. The last thing I notice is a soft hand running through my curls before I go out again.
