"Do you need help, Lura?" Monica asked, knowing that I was small. I was growing, but I was still five and short, which isn't a bad thing, I just hope that I grow a little more. I wanted to be tall when the war began, it makes me seem a little more mature.
"No, ma'am." I answered as I stepped up the stairs of the carriage, feeling the eyes of the soldiers on my back, wondering just who I am, and that to me made sense, they kept me a secret from a lot of people, and probably will continue to for the most part.
I got into the carriage and sat down across from Monica, she just watched me as I did, knowing that I wouldn't speak unless she told me to, or was just curious. "Are you excited?" She asked, trying to make conversation with a slave, but a slave she's been training for two years.
"Yes, ma'am."
"Yeah, I am too." She responded. "The mansion, the training grounds, they are much better there then where we were." I believe that, it had to be true, it was there main mansion. "It'll be nice to change some things up, don't you think?"
"Yes, ma'am." I agreed with that, and I was going to be with Lucas at all times, it was going to be a nice change of pace, well, and this was going to be how my life as from now on anyways.
"Do you have anything you want to talk about?" She asked me, eyeing me up, but I wasn't really that curious, I was just excited to see what the mansion was going to be like. On the other hand, it did make me think about how far along we've come, in the beginning, Monica didn't give two shits about me, I was just a slave to her, and that was okay, but now, over the past couple of months, I could see that her attitude toward me changed a little.
"No, ma'am." I answered kindly, not knowing what would be appropriate to talk about.
"Really?" Monica asked again, then went on. "There's nothing you want to talk about." I didn't respond as she continued to speak. "Well, I think you should know that Lucas won't be training with you, he's become a fire mage, which is good, it matches well with your abilities."
"I believe you will be training in the same location at the same times, but I will be training you away from him." Monica said. "There's still a lot that we have to go through, and you need to develop faster instincts."
"He's most likely going to be a conjurer from what I've been told." Monica paused for a second as we hit a bump, then went on. "He is nowhere close to where you are, I won't say this out loud to anyone else besides you, but I don't think he'll ever catch you."
"I am somewhat proud of that." I bet she was, she was my trainer, she's taught me almost everything I know. "I know that you will become such a powerful mage, and when you do, I will be able to say to myself that I taught you."
In that moment, a flare of memories flooded my mind, memories of an elf, an elf that sort of looked like me. I was shooting shards of ice at trees, and I was happy, not like I was now, it was a different type of happiness.
"Anyway, we should be there soon, it isn't too far from where we were at." Monica told me, sensing that I wasn't going to speak, not without having to, I was afraid of what I was and wasn't allowed to say.
It only took us about five or ten more minutes before we got to the new mansion, and when we did, I looked up at it in awe. It was much larger than the one we were staying at, it was such an amazing sight to me, Monica didn't stop to observe as we got out of the carriage, but I did.
However, as I stared up, I noticed she was walking away and followed her swiftly, moving to catch up to her. The mansion was so big, it wasn't a castle but it seemed like one, I've been here briefly before, but I was never able to take this all in.
The guards stayed behind with the carriage, doing something to it that I could not see, but that didn't really matter. The doors opened, and as they did, two people where there, one was a maid, I could tell because of what she was wearing, it was matching mine, just larger. The other was a soldier, most likely someone for Monica to speak to.
"Landon." Monica said as we appeared before them, I stood in the back, knowing my place. "It's a pleasure to see you again, it's been quite awhile hasn't it?" She asked, looking at the soldier who had long black hair that was styled to the left.
"It has been, what, a couple of years?" Landon asked as they shook each others hands. "When we went on that mission into the Beast Glades together to find that missing party." Monica nodded her head, he must have, no, they both must have been adventurers.
"Oh, yeah, you are right." Monica said, nodding as she did. "I miss those missions, but Lura here, she's been an excellent student and I've been happy training her." She looked back at me, I didn't move, I just took it all in.
"Yeah, training Lucas has been nice, he's a fast learner." Landon said, still eyeing me up. "She's in orange core?" Monica nodded with a smile on her face. "Damn, that is incredible, I didn't believe the rumors, I thought that's what they all were."
"Nope, they are all true, she's going to be a lot stronger than the both of us soon." Monica told him, still looking at me, then as she turned to him she continued. "Let's go to the training grounds while she is getting moved in."
"Sounds good."
Landon and Monica started walking away, leaving me with the maid, she was looking at me with a smile on her face. She was older, much older than Emily, but she was emitting this joyful aura, she wasn't a mage or anything, but she seemed confident.
"The one everyone has been talking about." She said, stepping up to me, looking down. "You are as beautiful as I've heard, and it seems like the training has gone well too, standing up right like all maids should."
"My name is Jessica, I am the lead maid here, I run everything, set everything up, and will be in charge of helping you adjust." She looked behind me, and as she did, I noticed the doors reopening and two soldiers walking in, one each holding one of my bags. "You can leave those here."
The soldiers nodded their heads and dropped the bags by us, then left once again, and I just stood there, not knowing if this Jessica was as nice as her aura, or if that was all a lie, or something she was hiding behind.
"Come on, I'll show you to your room." She stepped up and picked one of the bags up, she struggled for a second. "Get the other one." I did as she said, picking up my other bag, this one didn't have my armor in it, the bag was small and had dirty wash that I slept in. "You are a little different, Lura, you are special, do you know why?"
"No, ma'am." I answered, somewhat knowing what she was going to say.
"You are only going to be serving Lord Lucas, you won't be cleaning and cooking like the other maids." Jessica told me, somewhat laughing it seemed. "You are going to be his personal protector, his own slave, there might be times when you need to serve others, but that'll be on special occasions only."
We started walking through the large mansion, going down hall after hall, and eventually we arrived at a room. "You will not be staying in the slave quarters, it's something that I suggested to our Lord." My expression changed slightly, but I tried not to react as much. "You will be staying beside the young Lord's room so you are by him at all times."
