DELILAH DARLING always wondered what her life was going to turn out to be like, what she was going to grow up to be like, who she was going to be seen as to others, who her friends would be, what her parents would be like further in the future. Would they be happy with her? Would they be proud?

When Delilah was younger, she'd had many people tell her she was going to grow up to be the most beautiful girl ever and have a lovely life with a lovely husband and a lovely house with even lovelier children. Delilah thought nothing of it, and nodded along. What else could she have done if that was what she'd been told her whole life?

Though, a phase in Delilah's life had arisen at the age of 8. The blonde girl had been donned old enough to attend her father's work do's. Parties with wine and men in suits that crowded around her with smiles and playful shakes of hands to the young girl who twirled shyly in her white frilly dress and her hands gripping the back of her father's leg with a large grin.

She watched fascinated as people interacted like they knew exactly what to say and what to do. At one point in the night, her father drew her towards a woman who stood at the buffet table, a glass of dark red wine in her hand and her lips painted the same colour. She had smiled widely down at Delilah, who's cheeks blushed a colour that hadn't appeared when her father's male colleagues did the same.

The woman seemed amused by this and asked for her name. Delilah replied with a confident answer of her first, middle and surname. Her father chuckled loudly and patted her back, his hand remaining there gently on her shoulder as the woman, who had introduced herself as Jolene Kendrick, began to speak to her father casually.

Business stuff that Delilah had no interest in, only continuing to stare almost enraptured by Jolene's pretty shiny dark brown hair that went just to her shoulders, and her big doe deep eyes that flickered down to her every second and allowed her red lips to spread into a quick grin that left Delilah giggling.

When a slim fingered hand made its way over Jolene's bare shoulder, light pink fingernails painted gently and skin pale, the mood shifted immediately. Delilah felt the hand that once was gentle on her shoulder, grip tighter, as if her father was copying his movements when they'd go through a slightly dangerous area in Wiskayok.

Another woman joined beside Jolene, and her honey blonde hair that was pulled into a french bun, light green eyes and sharp jawline capturing Delilah's gaze just as quickly as her father had drawn her closer.

The woman began to speak, before her eyes flicked down to Delilah and she gasped loudly. Delilah had blinked, thinking something had happened, when the woman bent down to her height and smiled widely just like Jolene had done. "Well! Who are you?" She had asked joyfully.
