The days that followed felt like a blur. Hiroki went through the motions—school, training, dinner with the family—each day blending into the next as he tried to absorb the truth Fredrick had dropped on him.

He was still reeling from the shock of his mother’s betrayal, but he had learned something important in the process: he wasn’t alone anymore.

That thought kept him going.

The Richardson family’s house felt different now. It wasn’t just a place where he stayed—it was a place where he had found a new sense of belonging.

Seraphina, Seraphim, Pops, Dad, and Fredrick... they were his family now.

And despite everything that had happened, Hiroki was beginning to feel the weight of that in a way he hadn’t expected.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting an orange glow over the backyard, Hiroki sat on the porch with Fredrick.

The air was warm, but there was a sense of calm that made the heavy atmosphere from the past few days feel bearable.

"Hey, Fredrick," Hiroki began, his voice low, "what did you mean by ‘connected’? I mean, I understand they’re tough guys, but... why does it matter so much who they know?"

Fredrick sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.

"It’s not just about being tough. It’s about the power they hold. The people they’ve crossed paths with. They’ve been involved in... things. Things that I don’t even fully understand, but it’s enough to know that they have a lot of influence. A lot of connections."

Hiroki thought about this, his mind racing.

He had known that his new family wasn’t ordinary, but he hadn’t realized the full scope of it.

Pops, Dad, Seraphim and Seraphina—there was more to them than he could have imagined.

"Do you think I’ll ever be part of that world? I mean, they’ve done a lot for me, but it still feels... strange. I don’t know if I can fit in."

Fredrick turned to him, eyes serious but kind.

"I think you already are, Hiroki. You’re part of this family, whether you like it or not. And as for the rest of it? You don’t have to be involved if you don’t want to. But I’m here, and Seraphina’s here, and Pops and Dad... they’ve got your back."

Hiroki stared at the fading light, letting the quiet settle around him.

"I guess I’m still figuring things out," he admitted.

"Everything’s so different now. I’ve spent so many years feeling like an outsider... but here, with you guys, I feel like maybe I can finally breathe."

Fredrick grinned, nudging him lightly with his shoulder.

"Good. That’s what family’s for."

Before Hiroki could respond, he heard a familiar voice from behind him.

"You two are getting sentimental," Seraphina teased, stepping out onto the porch with a plate of food in her hands.

She had a smirk on her face, but there was a softness in her eyes that made Hiroki feel oddly at ease.

"Dinner’s ready. Don’t make me wait, boys."

As they sat down to eat, Hiroki felt a small, almost imperceptible shift in himself.

Maybe things weren’t perfect, but he was starting to understand that there was something better waiting for him here—something real.

Later that night, as he sat in his room, Hiroki couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that his mother’s past wasn’t the only thing that was catching up with him.

The shadows from his past, the people he had left behind, were always there, hovering just out of reach.

But now, he wasn’t the same person he had been before. He had changed, and so had the world around him.

The next morning, Hiroki woke up early, the soft morning light filtering through the curtains.

He had a new resolve—his past might have been full of pain and betrayal, but his future wasn’t set in stone.

He was determined to carve his own path, and he would do whatever it took to protect the family he had now.

Downstairs, he found Seraphina in the kitchen, making breakfast.

Her usual stoic demeanor was softened by the warmth of the early morning, and she greeted him with a small, knowing smile.

"You okay?" she asked as she slid a plate of eggs and toast in front of him.

Hiroki nodded, feeling a sense of clarity settle over him.

"Yeah," he said, his voice steady.

"I think I’m starting to get it."

Seraphina raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in her eyes.

"Get what?"

"That family is what I make of it," Hiroki replied, meeting her gaze.

"And I’m not going to let my past hold me back anymore."

Seraphina smiled, a small, approving smile that made Hiroki’s heart beat a little faster.

"That’s the spirit. Welcome to the family, Hiroki."

Hiroki couldn’t help but smile back.

For the first time in a long time, he felt like he belonged somewhere.
