Henry hadn't checked on his newborn in a while. He knew Audrianna needed a moment alone with their daughter after giving birth—well, that and the initial shock of becoming a father.
Constant guilt gnawed at him. So the moment his wife left the room, he practically shoved past her to see their baby.
Henry leaned over the crib, looking down at his daughter's sleeping figure. She looks so peaceful, he thought. But that peace was short-lived when Raegan began to squirm, making him panic internally.
He froze as her tiny eyes fluttered open, her gaze meeting his with a look of sleepy confusion, wondering why she had been awoken from her sleep.
She was a spitting image of her mother, except for her eyes. Everyone claimed Raegan had inherited those from him—and he adored them more than anything.
Raegan's gaze soon drifted away, her gaze settling on Audrianna's guitar resting on the bed.
"Do you want Daddy to play you a song?" he asked with a cheeky grin, watching her tiny smile widen, as if she understood
Henry slowly picked up the guitar, settling it on his lap and began to hum a soft melody just for her.
"♪ Dear Raegan, what to say to you? You have my eyes, you have your grandfather's name.. when you came into the world, you cried,"
Raegan looked up at her father with wide, curious eyes.
"♪ And it broke my heart.. I'm dedicating every day to you, domestic life was never quite my style. When you smile, you knock me out, I fall apart.. and to thought I was so smart."
The baby girl babbled softly, as if she was attempting to sing along to his words.
"♪ You will come of age with our young nation. We'll bleed and fight for you, we'll make it right for you.. if we lay a strong enough foundation, we'll pass it on to you, we'll give the world to you.. and you'll blow us all away.. someday, someday. Yeah, you'll blow us all away. Someday, someday.."

Henry's smile grew more and more when the girl started smiling at him with those eyes "♪My father wasn't around.. I swear that I'll be around for you. I'll do whatever it takes, I'll make a million mistakes.."
"♪I'll make the world safe and sound for you.. will come of age with our young nation. We'll bleed and fight for you, we'll make it right for you.. if we lay a strong enough foundation, we'll pass it on to you, we'll give the world to you, and you'll blow us all away. Someday, someday.."
"♪Yeah, you'll blow us all away.. someday, someday.."
Audrianna leaned against the doorway, watching her two favorite people. The sight tugged at her heartstrings.
She had never been so happy.
But she had lived long enough to know that nothing ever lasts.
With a sigh, she glanced down at her phone, glaring at the acceptance letter she had received from MIT.
