Chapter 35: Two Sides of Love
Mingyu had always been a whirlwind of energy. From the moment they met, his mischievous nature had been a source of constant amusement for Wonwoo. Whether it was sneaking spicy snacks when he thought no one was looking or playfully teasing Wonwoo during meetings, Mingyu’s youthful charm was a light in Wonwoo’s otherwise serious world.
But now, as the months of pregnancy progressed, Mingyu’s once vibrant and impish energy had softened. The playful spark was still there, but it had shifted into something quieter, gentler—a reflection of the life growing within him.
Wonwoo came home one evening to find Mingyu in the nursery, folding tiny onesies with a look of serene concentration. His hair was slightly messy, falling over his forehead as he hummed softly to himself. His hands, which used to be quick to pull pranks, were now delicate and methodical as he arranged baby clothes into drawers.
Wonwoo leaned against the doorway, watching his husband with a mixture of admiration and awe. Mingyu had always been beautiful to him, but this side of him—a soft, nurturing mother—made Wonwoo’s heart swell in ways he hadn’t thought possible.
“Mingyu,” Wonwoo called gently, not wanting to startle him.
Mingyu turned, a small smile spreading across his face. “You’re home!”
Wonwoo crossed the room in a few strides, wrapping his arms around Mingyu from behind. His hands rested lightly over the swell of Mingyu’s belly, feeling the faint movements of their baby.
“You look so at peace,” Wonwoo murmured, pressing a kiss to Mingyu’s temple.
Mingyu chuckled softly, leaning into Wonwoo’s embrace. “I was just thinking about how much life has changed. Sometimes, it feels surreal.”
Wonwoo guided Mingyu to the rocking chair in the corner of the nursery, helping him sit down before crouching beside him. “Changed how?”
Mingyu’s eyes glimmered with a mix of nostalgia and tenderness. “I used to be so... wild. Always teasing you, always getting into trouble. And now, I’m folding onesies and talking to our baby about what color their nursery walls should be.”
Wonwoo laughed, the deep sound filling the room. “You say that like it’s a bad thing. I love every version of you, Gyu. The naughty one who drove me crazy and the soft one who’s turning into the most amazing mother.”
Mingyu blushed, his cheeks tinged pink. “You’re just saying that because I’m carrying your baby.”
“No,” Wonwoo said firmly, reaching up to cup Mingyu’s face. “I mean it. Watching you become a parent has been the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. You’ve changed, but in the best way possible. And don’t think for a second that I don’t still see that mischievous side of you.”
Mingyu laughed, the sound light and carefree. “I guess I still have my moments.”
Later that evening, as they sat together on the couch, Mingyu rested his head on Wonwoo’s shoulder. They talked about baby names again, argued over whether the baby would look more like Mingyu or Wonwoo, and planned for the future.
As Mingyu dozed off, his head nestled in Wonwoo’s lap, Wonwoo gazed down at him with a quiet smile.
This softer, more maternal side of Mingyu was new, but it was just another layer of the man Wonwoo loved. And while he cherished every tender moment, he also secretly hoped Mingyu would never lose that spark of mischief that had first drawn him in.
Because, for Wonwoo, both sides of Mingyu—the playful troublemaker and the loving parent—were what made him whole.
