"Shit," I hear a curse come from Kameron behind me. We are headed down the mountain after our hike. Audrey ditched me to hike with my brother. They were long ahead of us.
I glance behind me at Kameron, noticing he was moving slow. Now, ever since he cursed, I realize he's limping. I immediately stop and turn to him completely. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." He practically snaps at me. His voice changed and is now just deep and cold.
"You're not fine." I argue with him, grabbing his arm as he tried to just walk past me. "You're limping. What hurts?"
"Nothing." He glares down at me with his dark eyes. He shoves my hand off his arm. "Just keep walking."
"Don't talk to me like that." I snap back at him. "Can you at least tell me what happened?" I wasn't watching, so I didn't even know what he did to be limping.
"I stepped a weird way on a rock, but I'm fine. I told you that." He grumbles. I shake my head but stay quiet. From now on, I walk behind him. I desperately want to know why he was limping so bad from just stepping a weird way but I know he won't tell me. What is he hiding?
Walking behind him, I feel guilty just watching him limp. There's nothing I can really do though. He's like twice the size of me, there's no way I could help him walk even if he would let me.
The waters are no longer cold, so I couldn't use that on his leg. Not that I know where he's hurting since he won't tell me.
"Why won't you tell me where you're hurting?" I grumble.
"Because I'm not hurting." He argues which made me scoff.
"So what, you're limping for attention or something?" I say sarcastically.
"Yeah, we can go with that." He mutters. I roll my eyes, looking around to find any clues of how far away we are from the car. I spot a fallen tree that I remember seeing towards the beginning of the trial.
"What are you going to tell the others when they see you limping?" I knew his mom was going to be really worried.
"I can force myself not to limp for a few steps." He answers as we continue down the path.
"That'll just make it worse." I shook my head. Does he always try to hide his injuries like this? "I don't understand why you're trying to hide it. It doesn't make you weak. Everyone gets hurt. You're not invincible or something-"
"Just give up already." He loses control of his anger, turning to me and stopping. I flinch a little, not expecting him to get so close. His face was inches away from mine and I could smell his cologne. Not to mention, he was still shirtless. "I barely even know you. You're just my sister's little best friend, so fuck off and stop acting like you're my caretaker."
I fall silent with his words. Did he really think I was just his sister's little best friend? I couldn't help but feel a little hurt. "Right. Okay." I mutter, walking past him. I always stay quiet whenever someone says something that hurts me.
"Dammit. Scarlett-"
"No it's fine. You made yourself clear." I walk a little faster but my heart makes me walk slow enough to make sure he's okay. His words repeat in my head all the way back to the start of the trail. He does know me and that's what pisses me off. He's acting like he doesn't.
"You took your sweet time. Where's Kameron?" Audrey asks as I reach the area where everyone is waiting by the cars.
"Right here." I hear him say from behind me. I glance at him, noticing he was trying his hardest not to limp. He immediately got into the car.
