"Girls! Are you ready yet?" I shouted from the bottom of the stairs.
"Coming mommy!" Bellamy and Bay simultaneously yelled back to me. It was early morning and I have a doctor's appointment today to check on the baby's progress and I didn't want to be late. The girls are still unaware about the miracle of one baby being alive—but today Gio and I decided that's going to change. Bella and Bay just think we're going to one of my regular check up appointments after the car accident and little do they know they're going to see their little brother or sister live on camera today.
"We're ready now mamá!" Bay smiled at me as she and her sister now shyly stood in front of me with pink blush on their cheeks, glitter eyeshadow on their eyelids, and smeared red lip gloss on their lips. My shoulders stiffened and my eyes widened as I stood there staring at them in pure shock, contemplating how I should react to my two little girls wearing makeup on their faces.
"Do we look pretty, mommy?" Bella asked as her and Bay's eyes gleamed with reassurance and approval.
My shoulders instantly relaxed at her question as I bent down to their eye level. "You two are beautiful with or without makeup." I smiled, causing them to also smile. "But you guys are too young to wear makeup. I'll let you wear it today but no more after today, my loves."
Bay's eyebrows furrowed. "But mommy!" She dragged the last part out. "Luna's mom lets her wear makeup. It's not fair!" Bay huffed as she crossed her arms over her chest angrily.
"And I like lip gloss." Bellamy quietly said, as she pouted along with her sister.
"What's going on here?" Gio announced his presence, walking through the garage door as he was waiting in the car all this time. He walked up behind me, fixing my hunched over posture and casually put his hands on my waist with his head in the nape of my neck, giving it a few kisses. Although it was supposed to be a relaxing gesture I only sighed with frustration.
"Mommy isn't letting us wear makeup but Luna's mommy lets her wear makeup and it's not fair!" Bay immediately told Gio as Bella just stood there. I have a feeling this whole makeup thing was Bay's idea and Bella just went along with it.
"Well daddy agrees with mommy. I don't think you guys are old enough for makeup yet." Gio concurs with me to Bay's dismay.
Bay stomped her foot before a tear of frustration fell down her cheeks and her chin began to wobble. "B-But I wa-want to l-look pretty, t-too." She whispered sadly.
That almost broke my heart hearing her say that and I think Gio could feel my swirling emotions radiating through me because before I could do anything, Gio took initiative and immediately picked Bay up in his arms and held her close to his chest, not even caring that some of her red lip gloss was getting on his white shirt.
