Diego's Point Of View
'No it couldn't be! How can this be? You cannot possibly be my -'
Mate.
That was the word I was finding very hard to utter as I stared into Allyssa's pristine green eyes. My sharp dagger pointed at her neck, hungry for blood but I couldn't kill her, not yet.
"What are you waiting for Death! Kill her and get it over with. Remember she is the mission." I heard Dexter growl from behind me.
There was a turmoil inside of me. I had to kill her, that was the mission before I told Stan to go fuck himself. Allyssa Argent was marked by Death to die tonight, but here I was hesitating for the very first time in carrying out my mission. Now all I knew was that I had to protect her.
This was unlike me, I never flinched or hesitated, not even in the face of a horrible end but for the very first time I was conflicted and couldn't do a thing.
"Kill her Death or I'll burn her myself." Dexter the notorious green dragon roared, this time I knew he was going to make through with his threat.
'DO IT! KILL HER! KILL HER!' I heard my dark and intrusive thoughts say. 'You have gone so weak. The Diego, the commander of death I knew, would never hesitate so much from taking a life. Kill her now!' Darkness, the voice in my head scorned.
'Shut up! I am not going to let anyone harm her until I know exactly what is going on. I needed her alive.' I shot back at the Darkness and his constant ringing in my head.
Who really was this strange woman and why did the Triad want her dead so much? And how is her destiny connected to mine?
Her forest green eyes held my blue orbs. What I saw in her eyes wasn't fear or any regret, all I could see in her eyes was a fathomless abyss swallowing and pulling me in.
"Stan should have never brought you back, he should have just killed you when he had the chance. You have grown wea-" Before that swine Dexter could complete his words, I threw my cursed blade into his throat without taking my gaze off of her. The dragon dropped down, dead and my cursed dagger appeared in my palm.
Her eyes regarded me in shock at what I had just done. Why was I saving her she must think, after all I tried to kill her once.
I could feel a tight, strong pull between her and me. There was no denying who she was. She was my destined soulmate.
Why did the Triad want her dead? Stan was bloody fixed on her death, he even went as far as sending me to make it happen.
I remember how this all started. It all began a week ago when I first arrived in New Orleans.
My mind trails back to the day I drove past that sign that welcomed me back to the town, New Orleans, my home.
After my cousin Isabella made a deal with the king of the crossroads, Memphis, we knew we were running out of time before he came back to collect.
It's been three months since Dimitri Castellan, the lycan, was resurrected by that bloody pact between Isabella and the devil. We have been searching for a way to vanquish the devil but we all landed with no luck with anything that can actually hurt him.
For the past three months we couldn't find any weapon to kill the devil but I knew more than anyone that there is nothing that couldn't be killed.
Just yesterday we knew time was slowly running out on us. Yesterday Isabella discovered that she was with a child, she had a vision that her daughter was taken away from her. The possibility of her vision coming true broke Isabella and I would be damned if I let that demon claim my niece.
