His eyebrows pinched together as pure confusion crossed his face. “Olivia? She testified against me?” He said more to himself than me. “Why the fuck would she- I didn't even do anything.”
I was about to add something when a realization turned his face into seriousness. “Did she help you run away?”
I had no clue how he didn't know. But if what he's saying is right then I can guess he was played. “Yes.”
“Today and last time?”
“Yes. Through Connor and Emma.”
His face dropped. He looked horrified by the truth while my threats didn't make him budge. He made it seem like he really didn't know about any of this. And for some reason I was starting to believe him.
“But she was doing all of this for you.” I accused, to get a clear picture of what's true. “She’s been covering for you all along. When I found your hidden base, she promised she'd stop you if I let it slide this one time. I was gonna tell Gen but Olivia had it wrapped up asap. I didn't have solid proof so I was collecting those and by that time Gen found out about my past. I had no better option than to blackmail Emma. She caved in and helped me escape to save your ass.”
“Save my ass? Bullshit!” He shook his head, a deep pain evident in his movements. “I knew she was a golddigger, I just didn't think- that's why I couldn't catch the bastard. It was my own wife all along!”
His hands were on his eyes rubbing then violently as the gun loosely swayed around his finger which was on the trigger. Scar’s hold tightened on my arm, her fearful eyes trained to the weapon. But unlike my daughter, I knew of and trusted Ben’s hold on it.
His interrogatory mask suddenly came up. “It was her who gave you the money and killed the men guarding you?”
“Yes.” I answered truthfully.
“Who faked Scar’s death? You or her?”
“I had no reason to do it. It was like putting more charges on myself.” I defended. “I think she did it so when Gen catches me, the only witness of her crimes; me, would be killed.”
He didn't comment on my words, rather shook his head. “Funny how both of us siblings are so unlucky in love.”
A moment passed as we stood in silence. I patiently waited, letting him collect his thoughts. When he finally turned to us again, he looked straight at me with anger evident in his eyes and lifted his gun to my head.
“Whatever she did, she’ll pay for it. But at no cost I'm letting you go.”
“Uncle ben please,” Scar pleaded him, tears gathering in her already swollen eyes. “Please let us go. This is our only chance to live a life. Please try to understand. Don't call her.”
He looked at her for a moment before sighing. “I'm sorry, Scarlett. It's not my decision to make.”
He dialed his sister who picked up soon after. “Passage seven. Elijah tried to escape with Scar. I have them at gunpoint, no retaliation from their side.” He paused to listen. “Okay, we’ll stay here. Come fast.”
“Dad, what do we do now?” Scar whispered to me.
I placed my hand over hers on my arm. “Leave it, Scar. We can't do anything.”
There was no point left in begging. He’s done the worst, there's no way out of it now.
I'll have to face the punishment for my sins and unfortunately my daughter will pay for it too.
