I was wrong. Maybe it would've been justified as long as I kept it between us. But she conceived. And I was already too far gone by then. Unknowingly —unwillingly— I had fallen in love with her. I had already bypassed the code of conduct.

I thought I could contain the mess. I thought it'll all be fine because my mind was clear now. I wanted her, I wanted Theo, I even wanted more kids with her. I didn't think anything could go wrong.

That was naive of me to hope for. A relationship made on lies crumbles one day. Maybe I could’ve contained it by coming clean to her about my past motive and my changed heart.

But my fear of losing her and our family always held me back. And slowly and steadily, it all came to an end. Rightly so, she refused to believe me. And my one sin gave way to another; in the form of taking Scar away from where she belonged.

I wish I had died before seeing my family fall apart.

“Oh you're so predictable, Elijah.”

The voice had us halting in our steps. Scar instantly slipped behind me, clutching to my arm tightly. If she was scared by Connor, she's terrified now, especially since there's a gun in sight.

“Didn’t expect to get caught again?” He raised a thick brow in mockery. “Must've known we won't leave the same openings again.”

“What are you doing here?” I questioned, a weird feeling bubbling in me.

“Making sure my sister's prisoner doesn't kidnap her daughter again.”

What the hell is he talking about?

“Don't turn from your word, Ben. Let us leave.”

“What word?” His gaze turned confused before he huffed. “Have you gone insane? What are you spewing?”

“We had a deal. You promised to help us pass.”

He looked even more confused now. “Something has gotten to your head.” He took out his phone. “I'm sure Gen can figure out what drugs you’re on.”

“Don't you dare cross me now, Ben.” I threatened and he paused to look at me like he couldn't believe what I'm saying. “If she comes here, I'll tell her everything.”

“Tell her what, dumbass. What are you even talking about?”

This doesn't make sense. Either he’s pretending to be oblivious or he really doesn't know anything. But how is that even possible- unless I was lied to…

“Don’t act innocent, it won't get you anything because I have proofs of your fuck ups!” I threatened, still not believing his words.

“Oh really? Enlighten me then.” He says ever so calmly.

“Cuba 1997, Berlin 2002, Quebec a year later.” I didn't have to explain that these were the locations large sums of our money was stolen from. These were all cases that he was investigating. “You were also involved with Derick that's why you fucking adopted his son, out of pity or your twisted loyalty.”

“What?” He took a step towards me in anger and Scar started whispering to me to stop. “You think I did that?”

“I have proofs.”

“What bloody proof, Elijah? It wasn't me. I wouldn't cross my sister. Everyone isn't like you!”

“But you are. Your greed got to your head and you-”

“I didn't. Okay!?” He shouted frustrated. “And how the fuck are you so sure of my involvement?”

“Your wife testified against you!” I threw the words on his face.
