Three years later (2024)
*************
It took... many many months, but she eventually got the hang of everything.
She got so confused with how plumbing worked, and she even searched around the room to find where the water was coming from.
I had to explain it to her, and she was genuinely confused.
There were other memorable events, though.
The first time she saw a TV, she thought it was some magic ball and kept running around it to see where the source was coming from.
When she listened to music, she screamed and panicked for a couple minutes.
Her first introduction to a smartphone was memorable, too, when she turned it on she dropped it and ran away like it was a bomb.
Ahhhh the other things?
Sidewalks, skyscrapers, shoes and clothes that everyone wore...
She screamed when I took her into a car for the first time because she thought it was going so fast we were going to die.
My favorite sentence she spoke every time she saw a modern thing was, "What witchery is this?"
It was very amusing to me.
After a year... so long... she got used to everything.
... Mostly.
And now... I was sitting next to her on the couch as we binge-watched Doctor Who.
Alice clutched a couch pillow tightly and had her legs pulled up as she clutched the fabric in anticipation.
"No!" Alice cried as the main character got stuck inside some alien ship. "No! No, go that way! Go that way!"
I smiled over at her. "It's not real. They're acting."
She gazed over at me, seeming genuinely sad. "But she's going to die."
"They're not real, princess," I stated then.
She just gazed back at the TV. "Wait for the Doctor! Wait for 'em!" She just gripped her hair tightly. "No! No, don't be dumb!"
I chuckled when the main character got stuck in an odd room and the episode ended.
"NO!" Alice cried, throwing the pillow across the room. "NO! NO! NEXT ONE! NEXT ONE!"
I just smiled over at her. "It's time for bed."
She just glared over at me. "No, you can't do this to me."
I stood and started to her with a sharp smile. "Watch me."
She scrambled backward. "No! I'm watching the next one!"
