Of course— nobody said anything about what was going on. Annabeth just looked at Percy and told him to get ready for cabin inspections, before taking off to the cabins. Lydia didn't even bother staying. If no one cared to share important information about whatever was going on— then Lydia didn't even need to stay.
She found herself back at cabin twelve. Where Castor and Pollux were trying to organize the place. But Daniel wouldn't stop chewing on Castor's clothes. "Dude! What are you doing?"
"Need some help?" Lydia asked him, lightly knocking on the door.
"Ugh, yeah he does." Pollux just shook his head, trying not to laugh as his twin struggled to keep Daniel under control. The twins actually liked the leopard. They didn't care much about having a giant house cat laying around.
Even Pollux wanted Dionysus to give him a pet leopard too, but Lydia said that they'd have to make them a stable too. Cabin twelve would not be big enough for two leopards. Let alone just Daniel.
Lydia managed to get Daniel out of the cabin long enough for them to clean. It didn't take too long since they didn't have much stuff laying around like most cabins did. Under their bunks, they each had their own drawer filled with their extra things. Lydia's was mostly filled with books and birthday gifts from her family.
She picked up a dusty picture book at the bottom of the drawer. The pages cracked as she opened it, and pictures of her childhood stared back at her. Lydia was seven years old-- holding a small fuzzy cat in her arms. She was six, playing in the cool pool on a hot summer's day. It brought so many things back to her mind.
Finally-- Silena from the Aphrodite cabin came by. She held a pen close to a clipboard, marking off each cabin around camp. She stepped inside for a moment. Quickly glancing around the whole space before checking cabin twelve off of the list. The twins sighed "I hope that was at least an eight."
Lydia blinked "Even with eight marks you'd still get work. Not as bad as Hermes since they always get one, and they have to clean stables for a week. But we probably still have to clean bathrooms or something."
Pollux grabbed the broom, shoving it into the closet by the bathroom "I'd take washing the dishes. Have you seen what the guys do in those bathrooms?"
"Don't tell me." Lydia turned around "I don't wanna know."
They all laughed, before settling down on the cabin's floor. A little while later-- Lydia and her brothers went down to the canoe lake. Where Percy was hanging out with Tyson and Annabeth. She was really glad to see Tyson, but Lydia could tell she was distracted. Annabeth kept looking over at the forest where the elders had their meeting with Grover.
"Is this about Grover's thing?" Castor asked "What all happened?"
Lydia quickly explained what went down during the meeting. Pollux, tried to not laugh about what she said to the elders. He was always laughing about something. "Does dad know?"
"I don't think he does." Lydia shrugged "But it's already done and over with."
Grover was nowhere to be seen, and Lydia felt really bad for him. Finding the lost god Pan had been his lifelong goal. His father and his uncle had both disappeared following the same dream.Last winter, Grover had heard a voice in his head: I await you—a voice hewas sure belonged to Pan—but apparently his search had led nowhere. Or that's what Lydia was told by Percy.
If thecouncil took away his searcher's license now, it would crush him.
"What's this 'other way'?" Percy asked Annabeth.
She picked up a stone, and skipped it across the camp's lake "Something Clarisse scouted out. That's why she wasn't here last winter."
Lydia knew the daughter of Ares was supposed to be on some mission for Chiron, but she didn't know it was really about Grover. And this thing they were looking for-- it seemed dangerous. Something that Grover was afraid of. Lydia tried to think about his fears.
What was going on?
It was all Lydia could think about for the rest of the day. That was until she came across some random guy fighting by himself in the sword arena. Lydia was prepared for the dude to be one of the Olympians and disguise, but she had a feeling it wasn't.
"WOOF!" The hellhound's bark shook the arena.
Lydia blinked, realizing a smaller sized hellhound was sitting right next to the random guy. The dog didn't try to run after her. So she stared at it for a few more seconds.
"Oh. That's Mrs. O'Leary." The man started walking towards her.
"You named a hellhound?" Lydia shook her head "Who are you?"
With his free hand he grabbed the armoredmanikin by the neck and heaved it toward the bleachers. Mrs. O'Leary bounded after her prey and pounced on the dummy, flattening its armor. She began chewing on its helmet. The swordsman smiled dryly.
Lydia could tell he was in his fifties. With shortgray hair and a clipped gray beard. He was in good shape for an older guy.He wore black mountain-climbing pants and a bronze breastplate strappedover an orange camp T-shirt. At the base of his neck was a strange mark, apurplish blotch like a birthmark or a tattoo.
