24 - jax

                                    

                                          
When Caine said they would be playing a game of tag, today was not what Jax expected. 
They all dispersed. Naturally, Jax tried to stay by (y/n) because of his promise, but he couldn't help but lose her. Once she ran off, he trailed her, but when she went outside it was like she had disappeared.
"Tag! You're it!"
Ragatha suprisingly caught Pomni, who then started to chase Jax. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Gangle running off somewhere.
Pomni tagged Kinger, who then tagged Zooble. They were having a great time, but Jax couldn't stop thinking, where's (y/n)?
He could feel that something wasn't right. (Y/n) was always involved whenever games were being played, so to not see her once was confusing. But then Jax felt it.
A pull.
Something tugged on his heart. In his mind, he could hear a whisper of a melody, and he wanted to hear more.
He immediately turned around, racing outside and following the ghost of the music when he saw (y/n). He sprinted towards her as the blade of the cat slahed across her side, leaving a huge mark. He sprinted even faster when she clutched her side and kept running.
"(Y/n)!" he yelled.
"Jax! Over here!" she ducked a swing from Nico as she tried to shove the cat off her, dropping the flute and clutching her side with now bloody hands. "Help!"
He wild eyes scanned the view before landing on the white cat. "You," he growled. "Cat dickhead. Get your hands off my girl."
Fucking Neko.
And he lunched at the cat.
Within seconds, he had tackled Neko and taken his katana, slashing it down at the cat. Instead of dying like any ordinary person would, he disappeared into black smoke instead.
He could head (y/n) telling him to watch out, but he felt the moment that Neko reformed behind him. He jumped back and tackled Nico to the floor, slashing down again. But the cat's fur turned dark and some sort of flaming glitch energy surrounded the three of them.
"Bitch!" The cat shouted. "Don't you remember when you rejected me and left me crying on the side of the road? You don't feel any shame in that?"
"I'm sorry," (y/n) said. "But I don't like you. I never did. Please stop."
Neko smirked. "Maybe this will make you regret it."
"LEAVE HER ALONE!"
Jax exploded. He lunged at Neko, punching him in the face and throwing him back. "Deal with it like a @ _&ing big boy! Don't be a sore loser and beat up someone for not liking you! You were supposed to help teach self-defense, what happened?!"
"Well, then think of this as a self-defense lesson." He lunged at the rabbit, slashing out with the sword. Jax kept ducking and dodging, fighting back by occasionally throwing in a few kicks.
He could hear (y/n) falling behind him. He almost turned around to check on her when his heart tightened. I have to fight for her.
And fight for her he did.
(Y/n) yelled desperately and some people showed up, calling her name. Jax could hear (y/n) telling Gangle to go get Caine as he ducked another swing and kicked Neko back. Gangle shouted Caine's name as she ran the other direction.
A chorus of "(y/n)"s and "(n/n)"s filled the air as people rushed to the vicinity. Suddenly, Zooble jumped through the fire circle and tackled Neko again, helping Jax. They fought together, occasionally yelling at the other and tag-teaming him. Jax could hear Pomni in the background trying to help (y/n) and reassuring her that everything would be fine.
"Zooble, to your left!"
Zooble dodged the fireball that Neko sent his way, yelling a thank you. 
Suddenly, a stray fireball whooshed by. Jax risked a glance back and shouted. "NO!"
Pomni and (y/n) separated to avoid the fireball, but the damage had alreayd been done. Neko broke through the ranks of Jax and Zooble, reaching (y/n) and cutting another slash down her leg.
Jax ran towards them as he watched (y/n) fall, a large gash opening from her knee to mid-calf and blood pouring out at a fast pace. She screamed as she cradled her leg, the burning pain making her lay there, helpless.
The scream that she let out made Jax heart wrench in his chest. A tear slipped out of his eye as he resisted the urge to stop fighting. He looked back, watching as (y/n) bled out on the ground.
"(Y/N)!" A sob made its way through his throat, his voice cracking toward the end.
"Jax, to your right!"
Everything got a whole lot more chaotic.
Everybody started yelling. Jax dove to the left in the nick of time as Neko blasted another fireball at him. Zooble ran to Neko and took the cat's sword. Pomni started shaking (y/n)'s limp form. Ragatha rolled (y/n) on the ground properly. Kinger started wailing about how he couldn't lose someone else to Neko.
And Gangle came back with Caine.
"Bakeneko?" Caine's voice boomed. "What are you doing here?"
The fireballs stilled. The ring of flames surrounding them dissipated into nothing. Bakeneko's black fur changed back into white as he 'paled.' "Fuck," he muttered.
He's able to curse?
He didn't have time to think on it too much. Immediately, he ran to (y/n), scooping her up and taking her away from Neko.
He didn't know where he was even running, but he knew that it was far away from the vicious cat. Tears slipped from his eyes while he ran, the wind taking them away.
Finally, he reached the tree by the lake. Gently, he set (y/n) down, resting her head in his lap. He took in two deep breaths silently.
Before he yelled as long as he could.
He keeled, sobbing as he screamed out of frustration. He didn't do a good enough job at protecting her. This injury that happened to his love was all his fault.
His love...
He never got a chance to tell her that he loved her.
This realization made him sob even more as he banged his fists on the ground, the tree, anything that wouldn't cause dirt to get onto (y/n)'s beautiful face. He kept doing this until he heard a calm voice behind him.
"Jax," Caine appeared behind him. "I need to take (y/n) in order to heal her."
Jax sniffled, nodding his head as he wordlessly stood and picked (y/n) up. He wiped his yellow eyes as he lowered his head in resignation.
Caine couldn't feel emotion, Jax knew that. He was an AI. But something in Caine's eyes spelled out sympathy when he looked at Jax.
"She'll be in her room."
AI might not be able to feel emotion, but they can analyze it.
Caine disappeared, leaving Jax to himself as he paced. He didn't want to keep (y/n) waiting, did he?
So he ran to be by her side.
