♣ Henry Smith ♣

I hadn't expected to see Marie on the couch with her head laid back as soon as I walked into the parlor.

Why was she sleeping here instead of her room?

My brows were drawn together. Hella, a maid of mine, rushed towards me, head bowed.

“Why is she sleeping here?” I asked in my usual tone which always came out stern, even when I didn't intend to.

“She seemed to have been waiting for your arrival sir.” She explained, head still bowed though I never actually told them to do that.

They just always did it as they probably felt like I'd fire them if they didn't.

“Why was she waiting for me?” She had never done that. Maybe she wanted to talk.

She'd looked like she wanted to talk when I'd said she should go home alone.

It wasn't my fault I had come late. A lot of things had to be done at the party and I had to head to work to do some things before coming back.

I didn't expect her to actually wait for me.

“I don't know about that sir, I guess she was probably has something to discuss with you.” Hella, whose head was still bowed, said.

“You can leave.”

With that, she turned, scurrying out of the parlor.

I walked towards Marie, standing in front of her while she just slept.

Her hair had been packed roughly to the back with a few strands escaping, falling over her face as she slept.

I wanted to know what she wanted to talk about, but should I really wake her up because of that?

I contemplated it for a minute or two, then came to the conclusion that she'd tell me later if she wanted to.

I mean, she had tons of other times to talk to me about it.

Just when I was about to turn, her eyelids separated, revealing the brown eyes she possessed.

Her eyes widened as she sighted me, an irritating squeak escaping her.

Seriously? Did she seriously have to overreact?

I furrowed my brows, expressing my disapproval on the squeak as I watched her jump to her feet.

“When did you arrive?” She asked, still seeming surprised to see me.

“Why are you sleeping here?” I ignored her question, thoughts of all the work I had to complete before going to bed came to my mind and I needed her to just tell me what she wanted to quickly.

“Oh I was waiting for you.”

I rolled my eyes, only realizing after I did it that I'd done it, because obviously I knew she was waiting for me.

“Why were you waiting for me?” I asked, making it obvious that was the question I'd expected her to answer.

“I want to ask you about—”

The ringing of my phone in the pocket of my pants cut her off.

I stretched forth my hand to stop her from continuing as I reached for my phone.

It was my secretary, Mrs Fila. I'd called her to go through some documents for me.

Answering the call, I placed the phone close to my ear. “Hello,”

“I've gotten the reports on the 2021 Henros launch planning,” she started, pricking my interest as that was what I really needed to hear.

“Wait a sec,” I turned to Marie whose brows were furrowed like she was already aware of what I was going to say.

“I've got to take this call,” and without waiting for her reply, I walked out of her presence, “I'm listening.”

“Yes, so we were supposed to have a business deal with the Divan Trust Company.” Mrs Fila continued, seeming to be in business mode.

“Yes, but didn't we already end up doing business with them relating the escape products?” I opened the door to my office,  closing it behind me once I was in.

“Yes, but,” I heard distant flipping of papers from her line, “there seems to have been some mistake relating to the business deal.”

I furrowed my brows. “Mistake?” One thing I hated in my business was mistakes.

“Yes, and it seems like it might have an effect on the Henros product.” She made it sound like it would be a huge problem, which was what I feared.

“What do you mean?” Nothing must happen to the Henros product. It was the one thing I'd come up with that had flown around the world and so it mustn't end up in damage.

She cleared her throat. “It seems like our product might be sued by their CEO.”

“Why?” My blood boiled in annoyance. Being sued could cause a huge problem for us.

“Because it seems like a mistake was made and the contract had said that the Divan Trust Company would actually end up battling with a share of the Henros product.”

The frustration in me increased. “Who made such stupid mistake? Who was the fucking person assigned to take over the contract?”

“Mr Joe, sir.”

I slammed my desk in annoyance, taking a seat on the chair in front of it. “Will this be a court case?”

“I can't say yet, but there's a possibility.”

I groaned my annoyance, “get our lawyer ready “

“Yes sir.”
