With my Mother

I sat in the cell they stored me in after I took a shower with my mother, luckily for me, Bruce told the man that was taking us that no one was allowed to watch us, and they actually listened. At least, I think they did, I don't know, I was focused on cleaning up, I hadn't showered for a while.

My mother was beside me, against the wall, holding me close to her, knowing that this could very well be the last night we were together, or even see each other. "Mom, I'm scared." I said, feeling her hand tightening a little as I did. "I don't want to leave you."

"I know, and I don't want to leave you." She said, kissing my newly clean hair. The cell we were in wasn't dirty, it was clean, like it's for the more expensive slaves, the only reason I bring that up is because the other cells we passed were disgusting, and the people inside were filthy. "We'll always be together, what did I tell you earlier."

"To keep the love in my heart." I said, not believing those words can help me right now, not wanting to leave her. "But it isn't the same, I want to be at home, with you, with, with dad." I might have the mental age of a twenty one year old, but from time to time, I still think like the three year old I was physically.

"I know, me too, me too." She pulled me closer, kissing me once again. "Your father is still here, he's watching, waiting for us to get out of here, waiting for us to get his revenge." She paused for a second as someone walked by, not caring that we were talking in the cell. "Remember that, my love, we might be slaves, but there will come a day were you are free, maybe not me, but you, and you can live a life."

"But what's going to be good about that life without you there." I said simply, heartbroken from the words. "I don't want to leave you." She didn't respond, she was thinking about what she should say, but I don't think she knew how.

"I love you." My mother said, not knowing what else to say. "You are going to grow up into such a beautiful girl, you know that?" She paused, thinking about it. "A powerful mage." I didn't know about that now. "Don't forget about how you love and were loved."

"What's the point?" I asked, upset. "I want to kill them."

"You can't think like that, not yet, and I agree with you." She said, it wasn't something she would have agreed with when we were in the village, but here, as slaves, she understood that it was okay to have that mentality. "You need to do what they say, no matter what, I want you to survive, even if the life isn't good, survive, please."

"I will."

"Love, if we never see one another again, find someone to love, find people, I know humans can't be trusted, but find people." She paused, and as she did, I thought about a human, Arthur, if only he rescued me. "You are going to be missing that love for quite a while, the hatred will only get worse, but find it in the future, that love again."

I was going to be missing that love, the love that was given to me from my parents when I was born till I turned three, it was gone, or about to be gone. They were selling us separately, it was going to break me, leaving her, leaving this place without her.

My mother was going to be, I don't know, a toy, and I was most likely going to be trained, then toyed with as well, I don't know what to expect, or what people expect from me. It was scary to think about all the possibilities, all the things that might happen, and things that will happen.

"Say it, say that you'll find love again." She told me. "I need to hear it, at least make me happy."

"I'll find love." I said, then added with sarcasm. "If I ever get free."

"You will." She assured me, but I know that tone, it wasn't here confident one, it was her make me happy tone. "You will get free, don't let this world take you, become what you must, but find love my dear."
