"Hey!" Alice jogged to meet Tyler at one of the exits in the back of the school. "How was practice?"
"Fine. How was your lab?"
"It was awesome; Ms. Cooper thinks I'll be ready in a few weeks,"
"That's great, Allie," Tyler congratulated her as they both made their way over to Tyler's car. Alice had taken to spending after hours with Ms. Cooper in order to prepare for the bio competition coming up soon.
As they made their way further towards the car, the wind whistled, succeeding in sending chills down the backs of both Lockwoods. Alice, more aware of the creatures of the night than Tyler, grabbed her brother's hand from where he had been looking around and pulled him toward the car. Walking quickly now, they both made it to the car and Alice tapped her foot anxiously as her brother put his bag in the trunk.
"Come on," she encouraged, wrapping her arms around her stomach.
"You're not scared, are you?" Tyler asked, teasing undertones to his voice. Alice didn't dignify him with a response, choosing to roll her eyes in his direction instead. If only he knew how much there was to be afraid of in this little town.
Pulling the car door open, Alice made to get into the passenger seat, only to realize someone was already there. She let out a shout of fear at the sight of Vicki Donavan hunched over in the passenger seat of Tyler's car. Tyler, having heard her scream, came rushing over.
"Hi, Ty,"
"Woah, Vicki?" Tyler asked in shock, noticing the girl in his car. "Everyone's looking for you,"
"I know," Vicki admitted. Tyler shared a worried look with Alice before he turned back to Vicki.
"What's wrong Vick?"
"I'm so cold," Vicki shuddered, not seeming to look at either sibling.
"Are you on drugs?" Tyler asked, causing Alice to sigh dramatically at his bluntness. "Everyone thinks you're off on a bender,"
"I wish,"
"Hey, Vick," Alice greeted, developing a comforting tone and soothing expression. "Something happened in the woods, right? When those kids were killed? What did you see?"
"I'm so scared," was all Vicki replied with. She sniffed and turned to them, revealing her disheveled state. Alice and Tyler shared another worried look.
"Come here," Tyler pulled Vicki into a quick hug. "It's okay. We'll take you home."
"I can't control it,"
"Control what?" Alice asked, her voice becoming apprehensive with suspicion.
"I am so hungry. And it won't go away"
Alice eyed Vicki suspiciously, a sinking feeling forming in her gut. "What are you on? What drugs did you take?" Tyler, who had no such feeling, asked firmly.
