"We can't stay in here forever," I said, tracing one of the heavy veins that raced down Salex's forearm. "They will find us."
Salex shifted, looking around him-no our-chambers with a grimace. "Honestly I'm surprised they aren't already here."
I sighed, leaning into my mate. It had been only two days since they had dropped the so-called Omega bomb on Kait and me and while it had made so many things clear...it had such fucked up a lot of others.
And today was the day that Lylta was going to tell the rest of the ladies. So far, most of them were leaning into staying with the Losskee, but honestly that could all change today. What would they all think - that they were not only predestined to be bonded to a Trenzian, but also that they were genetically inclined to this lifestyle no matter what.
In some worlds, Omega's were coveted. Protected. But if this information got into the wrong hands, we could only imagine what the smugglers who worked in the flesh trade would do to find more of us.
We had to do this the right way.
Or else the bottom of our very unstable pyramid of cards was going to come toppling down.
"I can feel you thinking, little mate," Salex purred softly under me. "Tell me waht you are worried about."
"Because I have you, I feel like I cheated this whole system. I knew there was things at play, but I still fell for you. I didn't have any reason to doubt it. And after Oren got here, it was even easier to prove how I felt for you was real. But these women," My head lolled back against one of the pillows in our nest. "They don't know these males. And now, they will have a name, and be told this is some kind of cosmic, fated mate that will be their only shot at happiness That is so much pressure."
"Not their only hope. Furo thinks that Omegas may have the capacity to have multiple matches or even be more flexible."
"But not here. Those younglings they carry are here because their parents were drawn together by both technology and genetics. It's kind of wild."
"Agreed. But what would you do otherwise? Not tell them. Let this chance, even if it is one of many for happiness to slip through their hands," Salex said softly, "Trenzia is going to go through some significant changes coming, but our word, this bond," he found my hand, pressing it against his chest, "This is sacred to even Trenzian. We will find a way."
My eyes dropped and I looked at the way my pale skin stood out so starkly against his soft purple. "No matter what, we stay together right. No leaving me behind on Trenzia or something."
"I could never," Salex sat up, shifting me so that our eyes could meet. "I did not wait a lifetime only to be separated from my mate and my youngling. Where you go, I go, where you stay, I stay."
If things go well with Oren, and if his family is open to allowing bonded pairs on Trenzia...what do you want to go?"
Salex looked pensive for a long moment, "I think I would like to continue to work for Oren. Finding humans and surrogates who have been in the Trenzian system. Maybe assist in finding them their mates."
I grinned so hard my cheeks hurt, "Such a romantic. Commander Salex, does your crew know you're such a softie?"
Salex's brow lowered, "I'm not soft."
I snorted, "No, I just meant, you are...in here," I pressed my hand harder against his chest. "Where it matters."
Salex smirked, "Only where you are concerned, and you mate, you are everything. If I can do just one more good thing to make your life, our life easier and better. I will do it."
I leaned in, forehead against his, wrinkling my nose when his harder skull makes mine ring just a little. "Sounds like a plan to me. I want to see it all, starting with your home. Maybe the youngling will be born before we reach Trenzia and your father he can meet them."
Salex's golden eyes are shining, "I hope so too. My father is a good friend of the council, his support will not only be important for our family, but for Trenzia herself."
I nodded, dragging Salex down for another quick kiss. "Can you imagine it though? All these happy bonded pairs?" I blinked, realizing something. "What will happen with the living situation here though? If these pairs end up matched?"
Salex rolled to his side, snuggling me close. "For better or worse most Trenzians who can afford surrogacy are older, meaning that they are likely officers and have their own rooms."
"And you think that every Trenzian would want to have a mate like this? Some of them might not want to be tied together like this. They wanted a baby, not a whole freaking relationship."
That left him quiet for a long breath. "I had never considered that as an option to be honest. Maybe I should've. Maybe today, when we talk to the surrogates, we should also talk to the Trenzians."
I tried to picture the various members fo the Losskee crew who might be the father's of those younglings, and my brain glitched. Was Salex hinting that we should essentially dump everyone in a room and let them figure it out?
"Do you mean...?"
"No, no strange matchmaking. I just think we should invite the currently awake surrogates and their matches to the meeting. They can choose to interact with their donor, or they can choose to avoid them. My crew will be on their best behavior."
I thought back to the ladies who I had only just begun to get to know. "I can't promise that of the ladies."
To my surprise, Salex laughed, his chest moving my head. "I would expect nothing less, little mate. We had our own trials, and I think they have made us better for it. It is only fair they suffer, even if for a short time, under the wrath of the omegas."
"Wrath of the omegas?" I smiled, letting my eyes slip shut, "I like that."
"Of course you do," Salex said, just before I let an elbow fly, and he let out a soft grunt as it landed.***
