Chapter eighty two
"You ain't gotta worry about him anymore."
A month had gone by since then where the building of the bridge had occurred where members of alexandria, hilltop, kingdom and even the saviors were helping build it, where they even had a camp nearby that people were staying at to make the work go faster but that meant it was up to Scarlett to figure out what was going on with alexandria and the saviors low food supply from the hilltop so Michonne knew to come with her which meant leaving her kids with someone she didn't completely trust which after having left Carl only to come back to him dying, it didn't sit right with her especially with a bug going around.
As her and Michonne road on their horses up to the hilltops gates they opened up for them, as the two headed inside, they stopped by the stables and got off their horses, one of them went to take Scarlett's "don't put mine away. I don't think I'm gonna be here that long." Scarlett shared "Scarlett." Michonne told her, as Jesus walked up to them "hi." he told them, as Scarlett turned walking toward's Maggie, Michonne and Jesus gave each other a look as they followed, Maggie got off the horse and walked up to them in the pen "hey. Just you two?" she asked.
"From the sanctuary." Scarlett told her "find out anything?" Maggie asked "word is the ethanol was sent out last week like they promised." Scarlett shared "well it's still not here." Maggie shared "and that's.." Scarlett went to say "yeah. Jesus mentioned that. We don't know what happened." Michonne shared "they could be lying." Maggie shared "they're not. Attacked by walkers possibly, going AWOl another possibility. But I don't care. What I care about is the food that you promised and haven't handed over." Scarlett shared "we could do it. We have the surpluses." Jesus said.
"Yeah, but for how long? Till we get that fuel..that tractor's not moving. Which means the big fields don't get plowed and the yield comes in short." Maggie shared "which is why we took the one from the museum which Ezekiel almost died for." Scarlett shared "I need a black smith to fix it, and I don't have one right now." Maggie shared "Rick told me how you spoke to him when he came here which is exactly I didn't come with him because I was there and you talked to him like that I wouldn't have been so nice. And he also told me how you that same night hung Gregory in front of everyone, in front of two children even. And then locked up Earl because he's the one who attacked you but not only is he elderly but he just lost his son, Maggie. You really gonna keep him in there forever?" Scarlett asked.
"I don't know. I haven't decided. First time we've had to deal with something like this." Maggie shared "which is why we need rules. I mean do you really think he'll try to do it again?" Scarlett asked "I didn't think he'd do it the first time." Maggie shared "he lost his son. He came out with you, he trusted you to look after him and he died not even by a walker but by a horse kicking him. He wasn't thinking straight." Scarlett shared "so should I let him walk like nothing happened?" Maggie asked "is that what you think me and Rick did? Just let him walk?" Scarlett asked.
"No, no..we're here about crops, right?" Jesus asked "the hilltop will be fine. Until that ethanol shows up we're holding on to our surpluses because we're gonna need em." Maggie shared, as Scarlett scoffed "yeah I bet you will." she shared, turning and walking off "it's a long ride back to alexandria. You're welcome to stay the night here if you'd like." Maggie shared "I'm good!" Scarlett voiced, as her horse was brought up to her, she climbed onto it and began riding toward's the gates, they opened back up as she headed out.
Having been heading back to alexandria, Scarlett passed one of their lookout points that they had for when one of the herd's passed by and right now there was nobody attending to it which was strange and she knew if nobody was there that meant the herd would be heading right toward's their people, as she began to slow, she was gonna get off her horse and do it herself but then she was someone in the distance up ahead in the woods and as the two locked eyes, Scarlett noticed it was Justin, the savior who wouldn't listen to Daryl and as he looked at her, he took off running into the woods.
