Ryker's POV

As I laid back on the fairly uncomfortable bed in the medbay, I let my mind wander back to the events of the day.

Amira and I sat on the couch eating breakfast. She sat on one end and I on the other with an empty cushion between us. I frowned at the space separating us but didn't comment as I couldn't tell if Amira had left a gap between us on purpose.

I let her have first movie pick and she went with an oldie but a goodie, The Sandlot. I smiled at her choice. Her pick fit her perfectly.

Every so often I would glance over and see her paying close attention to the show. Every time I looked over at her, the space between us had seemed to grow.

As the movie began ending, I stood, stretched, and cleared away our dishes. I stood in the kitchen looking back at her and she seemed to be cold.

I went to my room and grabbed a spare blanket from my closet. When I sat back down, I sat next to her. I grabbed her calves and placed them across my lap.

She helped me spread the blanket across both of our laps with a slight blush covering her cheeks.

"Your turn to pick", she said quietly as she handed me the remote.

I took it from her and picked another oldie but a goodie, Remember the Titans.

With my hands free and in my lap I laid them on top of her legs, under the blanket.

Amira paid this one less attention and I caught her staring at me more than once. I always knew when she was looking because her eyes left left a burning trail wherever they touched my skin.

Along my jawline, tracing my nose, she would study my face a little differently every time, but she would always end by staring at my lips.

I would always look over at her during the last part and she would turn back to the movie, blushing furiously.

I still didn't like how far apart we were sitting so I placed her legs back on the floor and she leaned her head against my shoulder. I put my arm around her and pulled her closer.

Then my angel picked one of the lamest looking shows ever on her next turn. Vampire Diaries

I tried to hide my grimace and when she turned to look at me it disappeared completely. I can't say no to her. I nodded my approval with an internal eye roll at how whipped I am.

As soon as the first vampire killed those two people in the first scene, I was on the edge of my seat.

Unfortunately, on about the third episode, Malone walked in and gave me a look with a clear message: we need to talk.

I untangled myself from Amira and led him into the spare bedroom.

I sat down on the bed and gestured for him to talk.

"I spoke to our men. They secured the area around that safe house rafter the gunfight. The Twisted Snakes left at least 30 dead, including several high ranking officers, while we only had 10. Our mole reports that they had about 50 dead total- counting those that died later due to injuries and the bodies they recovered. Ian is dead but Duke survived. They are out for blood because of the huge toll this fight took. According to our mole they also aren't sure if you made it yet; however, if you are alive you are to be killed on sight." He paused, looking at me,"What do I need to tell our men now?"
