Voidwalkers have a significantly slower heart rate than most other species because they have lived and evolved in the Void. These people also help with keeping an eye on the deceased to make sure that they don't try to escape to the Main World and cause havoc.
The Voidwalker morphing process is disturbing to even the people who think they've seen all the worst things that can happen to someone. First, the skin opens up where the new limbs will come out, then there's bone cracking and breaking noises, followed by a horror movie amount of blood coming from the split in the skin as the bones of the new limbs force their way out of the person. Then, the muscle and nerves swirl up the bones, locking in place. Then, the skin appears, covering the exposed muscle. The skin is bloody when it comes out, but it's easy to wash off the blood.
