Days had turned into weeks since New started his new job, and his happiness was unmistakable. Each morning, he left for work with a bright smile, and each evening, he returned home with stories of friendly colleagues, new challenges, and a sense of purpose that filled him with energy. Seeing New so happy made Tay’s heart swell with pride, even if he missed the easy, long hours they once spent together. Their time together was short now, and though Tay hid his longing, the distance between them was something he couldn’t ignore. For New, though, Tay would do anything, even if it meant letting him chase his dreams.

Today was like any other. They ate breakfast together, exchanging little jokes and smiles across the table, and then went their separate ways. As they walked out the door, Tay wrapped New in a warm hug, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. “Have a great day, Hin,” he murmured, lingering for just a moment.

New gave him a soft smile. “I will,” he promised, squeezing Tay’s hand before heading off.

Throughout the morning, Tay tried to focus on his own work, but thoughts of New kept drifting into his mind. Just as he was about to text New, his phone rang. It was New calling.

“Hi, Hin,” Tay answered, his voice filled with affection.

“Tay!” New’s voice came through, excited but with a hint of nerves. “My friend Mix just told me that the boss wants to meet me after lunch. It’s the first time I’ll be meeting him face to face.”

Tay’s heart leapt with pride, and a big grin spread across his face. “That’s amazing, love! Your boss must see how hard you’re working. Don’t be nervous—you’ve got this.”

New laughed softly on the other end. “I’ll try, but... I don’t know. It’s a big deal.”

“Just be yourself,” Tay encouraged. “You’re smart, dedicated, and kind. He’ll see that. And remember, I love you and I’m so, so proud of you.”

New’s laughter turned warm. “Thank you, Tay. That’s exactly what I needed to hear.”

After they hung up, Tay’s heart felt lighter. He wished he could be there, to see New in action and cheer him on. But he settled for imagining New’s confident smile as he went into the meeting, hoping it would go perfectly.

When the time for the meeting came, New took a deep breath to calm himself and headed to the office his boss had indicated. After a knock, a voice from within said, “Come in.”

Stepping inside, New was momentarily taken aback. His boss was young—maybe only a few years older than him—tall and strikingly handsome, with a strong build and an air of confidence that was almost intimidating. New felt like he’d seen him somewhere before, but he shook off the thought. His boss was well-known in the business world, so it wasn’t surprising if he looked familiar.

“Please, have a seat,” his boss said with a warm smile.

New sat down, still feeling a bit nervous but determined to make a good impression. They talked for a while about New’s work and the company’s vision. Then, near the end of the conversation, his boss leaned forward slightly, his eyes thoughtful.

“You’ve made quite an impact here already, New,” he said. “I’d like to offer you the position of my personal assistant. Think about it. Take a
day if you need to.”

New was surprised; it wasn’t the discussion he’d expected at all. “Thank you, sir,” he said, still processing. “I’ll definitely think it over.”

After the meeting, New’s mind was spinning. The offer was exciting, but he hadn’t even considered a role like that. By the time he reached home, he was exhausted and barely had the energy to process the day. He slipped off his shoes, dropped his bag by the door, and fell onto the bed, not even bothering to change.

When Tay came home an hour later, he found New sprawled on the bed, still in his work clothes, sleeping soundly. Smiling to himself, Tay walked over, feeling a surge of affection. He knew New must’ve had a long day, and he couldn’t help but feel proud of him all over again.

Carefully, Tay gathered some fresh clothes, a warm towel, and a basin of water. He sat beside New, gently patting his face with the damp towel to clean him up. New stirred slightly but didn’t wake, a small smile tugging at his lips as he relaxed under Tay’s careful touch. Tay washed New’s hands and face, his movements tender as he replaced New’s work clothes with something more comfortable.

Once New was settled, Tay went to the kitchen and prepared a simple dinner. Bringing a tray of food to their room, he sat beside New again, brushing his fingers through his husband’s hair until New slowly opened his eyes.

“Wake up, sleepyhead,” Tay whispered with a chuckle. “Dinner’s ready.”

New blinked, sitting up slowly as Tay helped him, his eyes still heavy with sleep. Tay offered him a spoonful of food, and New accepted it gratefully, leaning into Tay’s shoulder as he ate. They sat in comfortable silence, Tay feeding him gently, his heart full as he watched New relax.

After they finished eating, Tay took the tray to the kitchen and returned to bed. He lay beside New, pulling him close and pressing a soft kiss to his forehead. New snuggled against him, his hand resting on Tay’s chest, and let out a sleepy sigh.

“Tay… I wanted to tell you something,” New mumbled, his voice drowsy.

Tay smiled, his fingers tracing gentle patterns on New’s back. “What is it, Hin?”

But by the time he looked down, New’s breathing had already evened out. He was fast asleep, a soft smile still on his face.

Tay chuckled softly, pulling him even closer. “Guess it’ll have to wait till tomorrow,” he whispered, placing a gentle kiss on New’s hair.

As he lay there, Tay couldn’t shake the feeling that something was on New’s mind. But he pushed the thought aside, focusing instead on the warmth of his husband in his arms. Whatever it was, they’d face it together. And for now, he was content just to hold him close, feeling their heartbeats synchronize as they drifted off to sleep.
