He spun back around before opening the door to Ellie's room.
"I want you all to remember that this isn't general but miniature. These are kids, they believe in unicorns and fairy's and there is fairy dust in their IV bags. They are stronger than adults and recover faster, going through more. Any of you, and I mean any of you upset a child while you're on my ward, I will be making sure you don't see the inside of an OR until you are a fourth year resident."

The three interns looked shocked by his change of heart so quickly but didn't interject, just nodding. Ross put a smile back on his face and happily trodded into the room.

"If it isn't Little Miss Ellie!" Dr. Dennis happily exclaimed, the little girl giggled and laid back in her bed, ready for a check up.

"How's your tummy feeling?" Ross asked as he gently put his stethoscope to her chest.
"Ouchie." She frowned, rubbing her stomach. Ross nodded and checked a scan in her chart, he visibly went a bit pale.
"I'm just going to talk to Dr's Grey, Yang and Karev outside." He excused them and stepped out.

"What's wrong?" Dr. Grey asked him with a raised eyebrow.
"I need you to page neuro. Now." Meredith nodded and ran off, Ross turned to Alex. "You need to stay with her until the surgery, and I mean don't leave for a second." Cristina and Alex raised their eyebrows.
"We have an abuse case."

Alex walked back into the room and sat at the end of the bed, making small talk with Ellie while Cristina and Ross stayed outside.
"They can't know we know, so you are going to come back in with me and then pretend your pager went off and that Dr. Burke needs us both." Cristina nodded and the two walked back in with smiles.

"Sorry about that, it's their first day and I just needed to-" He began before Cristina cut him off with a tap on the arm.
"Dr. Burke needs us both, paged 9-1-1." Ross looked over at her with a fake look of surprise.
"Sorry about that, Dr. Karev will keep you company until we're back." Cristina and Ross calmly walk out until they're out of sight range and quickly sprinted to the chiefs office.

"Dr. Webber, we have an abuse case in room 1019, patient is Ellie Graham, three years old, obvious makeup on bruises and the 'stomach pain' she's complaining of is likely because of a concussion she can't get better because it keeps happening again." Ross explained as they ran into the chiefs office, he was completely unaffected by the amount of running they had done while Cristina was bent over in attempt to catch her breath.

Webber arose from his chair.
"Who is with the family now?" He looked concerned.
"I told Karev to stay with them, we told them that Burke needed us immediately." Ross explained as Meredith came into the chiefs office followed by Dr. Shepherd, the head of neuro.

"Dr. Grey explained on the way." Shepherd told them.
"I need you to do an exam on her, I'll say it's a routine checkup for someone her age while you call the police and CPS." Ross orders Webber and Shepherd. Neither complain and they both nod.

"Yang, Grey, I need you two to wait by the entrance and wait until the police arrive, I want you two to escort them in." He tells the two interns, who happily oblige to being a part of the plan.

Ross begins walking back to the patients room with Shepherd by his side.
"I don't believe we've formally met." Ross offers him a hand as they walk.
"Ross Dennis." Shepherd raises an eyebrow but takes his hand, it's surprising warm against his.
"Derek Shepherd." They nod at each other once more before they walk into the child's room, both with an appealing smile.

"I finished up with Burke and thought while you're here you might as well get a routine checkup to save Ellie from having to come back." Ross smiled and took a seat beside Alex, he gazed into his lap and saw a small notebook behind his clipboard where he has detailed descriptions of different bruises he saw on her body while they were playing. Ross was impressed to say the least.

"Can you open this eye..?" Ross watched as Derek performed a normal exam they would do in a clinic to the young girl and only took his eyes away when Meredith showed Ross a signal through the door that she had the police.

Ross made a quick thought and got up, moving to Ellie and lifting her into his arms before walking out. Derek and Alex followed closely behind, causing the two parents to walk out with them.

"What's going on?" Her father asked as he followed the doctors out of the room only to be met by the police.
"You are under arrest for child abuse and child endangerment, you do not have to say anything but anything you do say can and will be used against you in the court of law." The officer said to the parents as two of them cuffed the parents.

Ellie watched her parents get dragged away screaming with little to no emotion.
"They gone?" She asked Ross, he nodded. She gave a smile to him before wrapping her small arms around his neck and hugging him. He hugged her back.

"Eventful first day, huh?" Derek chuckled as he caught up to Ross as he was leaving.
"You could say that." The men laughed together.
"Fancy going and getting a drink at the bar across the road?" Derek suggests, feeling a surge of confidence as he looked at the blonde man beside him.
"Sure, that sounds good." Ross smiled at him as the two walked across the road and into Joe's Bar.

A/N: first chapter done!! Callie finding Ross attractive is my Roman Empire. And probably Ross's too. If he hadn't met Derek and turned gay, Callie would have definitely been his choice.
