"What the hell went wrong, Soph?" Alfie asked me over coffee, shortly after I came back from Ibiza. "I... don't know, everything was falling apart and leaving seemed the only possibility" I sighed, fighting my tears. "Has he called yet?" he asked, furrowing his eyebrows. "Only a million times. He's also written me so many messages which I just haven't had the strength to open yet" I replied, biting my lip anxiously.
"So you're ghosting him?" he asked and tilted his head. "I wouldn't call it that-" I tried to argue, but we both knew he was right. "You're ghosting him. Wow, you're both really mature. He ignores your feelings and you ignore his messages" Alfie sighed, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Have you heard back from your roommate?" I asked instead. After coming back, I had packed a suitcase with the most essential clothes and crashed at Alfie's since - I just couldn't bear the thought of sleeping alone in a bed that smelled like Ruben, in the apartment where everything reminded me of him. "He's away for the summer, you can crash as long as you want" he replied. "When are you going to tell Mum and Dad? And James?" he asked.
"I don't know, I wouldn't even know what to tell them!" I sighed and Alfie just rolled his eyes. "This is so messy" he just commented and put his head in his hands. "Look, I'm going to Lisbon for the game against Finland, everything's already planned and paid anyways and... I'll just see if... we'll manage to talk there and how it goes" I mumbled, fiddling with my coffee cup. "I'll tell you how it'll go: down. And fast." he replied and I slapped his shoulder.
