she wasn't sure if that made things more or less complicated.

"if he ever becomes your boyfriend, make sure we meet him and talk to him." her dad said more seriously, making rinzu chuckle nervously.

"he's not." she replied, quick to dismiss the thought. "just a what-if situation," her dad continued, "but if it does happen, bring him here."

rinzu nodded but muttered under her breath, "i doubt that's gonna happen anyway." her feelings toward suna were confusing.

one moment, she felt like she really liked him, and the next, it all just faded to nothing. or maybe it was just her denial.

she tried talking to keiko about it, who always responded with, "you're in love with suna, stop being in denial." but rinzu wasn't so sure.

whatever, i'll figure it out eventually.

meanwhile, back in nagoya, suna was at the mall with airi, who was obsessively browsing for a gift for naoki. he followed behind her, visibly bored.

"stop overthinking it. just get him a deodorant or something." he suggested lazily.

airi smacked his arm, "oh shut up, naoki smells good and please don't interrupt me. go find a christmas gift for rinzu or something."

he shrugged, "fine. call me when you're done. if you don't, you're walking home."

leaving airi to her own search, he wandered through the stores, unsure where to start.

his first stop was a makeup store, although he realized immediately that he was way out of his depth. he stood in the middle of the store, surrounded by shelves full of products, looking completely lost.

a store clerk noticed his confusion and approached him with a friendly smile. "looking for something for a girlfriend, perhaps?"

suna scratched the back of his head. "not really, but... yeah, i guess," he muttered. "i need something, uh, pricey but good quality."

the clerk nodded knowingly. "follow me."

she led him to the lip gloss section, showcasing a row of shades. suna's eyes scanned the display, overwhelmed. "would this be good?" he asked. "which shade do you think would suit her?"

"um, sir i don't know what she looks like but i'm sure any shade would suit her. it really depends on her style. a soft pink or peach might be subtle and pretty."

"how much for all of them?"

the clerk's eyes widened in surprise. "oh! are you sure, sir? there are twelve shades in this collection."

he blinked at her, unfazed. "pretty sure the total cost wouldn't reach my limit." he said confidently, hands casually tucked in his pockets.

the clerk smiled, clearly impressed. "alright, then. i'll pack them up for you."

as she began ringing up his purchase, suna smirked slightly to himself. maybe it's overboard, he thought, but if rinzu's anything like me, she'd find this funny.

when he got out of the store, he looked down at his purchase in the paper bag, he then looked around, trying to find another gift for rinzu.

suna wandered around the mall, racking his brain for stores rinzu would go into. realization struck him. he'd never been shopping with her before.

he never even bought her a gift. this new territory made him feel slightly out of his element, and he had to admit, he really could use some advice right now.
