Crystal managed to free herself, her heart racing as she glanced at the three men, slumped and reeking of alcohol in the other room. She heard one of them mumble, "I should go check on her."
Her pulse quickened. No, no, no!
But just as he started to rise, the other waved him off lazily. "Forget it. What could she possibly do? She’s tied up," he muttered, sinking deeper into his seat.
Crystal exhaled a shaky breath, a wave of relief washing over her. They didn’t notice.
Steeling herself, she whispered, "Come on, Crystal. Now’s your chance. Get out of here."
With as much stealth as her trembling legs could manage, she slipped out of the room. The building was old, dark, and eerily quiet, with several floors to descend. There was no elevator in sight, so she crept down the stairwell, her every step echoing in the silence. Now and then, she stumbled over discarded objects scattered along the steps, each clatter making her heart skip. But the drunken men didn’t stir.
Finally, she reached the ground floor and pushed the door open, stepping outside into the cool night air. She took in a shaky breath, relief flooding her. She looked up at the building, dizzy at the height from which she had escaped.
“It was easier than escaping Dimitri house, this old man knows nothing but talk I guess , Alright, let’s go,” she murmured, gathering her strength.
As she turned to make a break for it, she caught a shadowy figure just ahead. She squinted in the dim streetlight, her heart skipping again, but this time for a different reason.
"Dimitri?" she whispered, a smile breaking across her face. Her eyes lit up as she took in his familiar silhouette.
He came for me.
