Naira's POV"We like each other; we're both ready." Did I hear that right? Before I could process, the room erupted into celebrations. Congratulations filled the air, and Neha hugged me tightly-uncharacteristic for my reserved sister. I'm the affectionate one.
What's happening?
Mrs. Kakkar handed me her golden bangles as a shagun, her eyes shining with joy. "For the lovely bride-to-be." Ansh's dadu presented me with a gift of money, his voice trembling. "I've finally got the daughter I've longed for."
My gaze met my father's, and he nodded encouragingly. "Beta, we won't proceed without your consent. Is it a yes?"
How could I say no now? My family's happiness was palpable, like they'd received everything they ever desired. I forced a smile."No, I... can't say anything right now. It's not the right time." My voice barely whispered.
As everyone congratulated us, Mr. Kakkar requested dates for the wedding, and my father eagerly agreed. We parted ways, each heading to our respective cars. The ride home felt endless.
My family reminisced about old memories and my childhood, as if I was leaving forever. Their sentimental tone irritated and confused me. I felt angry, too - why had he agreed so readily? I needed answers.
For now, I remained silent, unsure of how to shatter the happiness bubble surrounding my family.Once home, Neha grilled me with questions, sensing my unease. Despite our three-year age gap, we share an unbreakable bond that transcends words. With just one glance, she can sense my emotions. Our connection is so strong that we can convey thoughts through silent exchanges.
Growing up, we were like fierce rivals, constantly at odds with each other. However, as we matured, our relationship evolved into a beautiful, unspoken understanding. We confide in each other, sharing our deepest thoughts and feelings.
My sister had a gut feeling that something was off, and my dodgy responses just made her more anxious. I knew I couldn't keep her in the dark much longer.
But I couldn't shake off the feeling: how could he do this? Why? I needed answers. But I couldn't burst their happiness bubble, not yet.As I lay in bed, I heard my father sharing the news with our aunts. Exhaustion was my escape. "I'm tired," I said, and they let me retire to my room, knowing I have work tomorrow.
Ansh's POV
As I walked into my home, my parents greeted me with beaming smiles. I had finally agreed to something they'd been eagerly waiting for. I'd always met their expectations and taken care of my responsibilities, but there was one thing I'd been avoiding: marriage.
Two years ago, I had a painful experience. My first serious relationship ended after just six months, leaving me hurt. Since then, my parents had been worried that I couldn't take care of myself in romantic relationships.
For the past year, they'd been searching for the perfect match for me. I agreed to an arranged marriage partly because of my family's influence, and also because of my past relationship experiences. I hoped that they might be able to find someone more suitable for me than I could on my own.I stepped into my room, collecting my thoughts, and immediately dialed Miss Mehta's number.
Ansh: Hey, Naira.
Naira: Who's this?
Ansh: (laughing) Ouch, forgotten me already? Your egoistic maniac, Ansh.
Naira: (irritated) How did you get my number? We agreed on no contact. Who gave you the right to assume my answer?
Ansh: (teasingly) Ah, my wild cat, don't be so fierce with your to-be husband.
Naira: (firmly) You're not my to-be husband, and I'm not a wild cat, but I'll show you what it means to be taken lightly. You'll regret this.
Ansh: (calmly) Okay, okay. I get it. You're angry. Meet me outside your office tomorrow at 9 a.m. and I'll answer all your questions.
Naira: (firmly) You better have good reasons, Mr. Kakkar.
