Ona's POV
"Hey can I ask you something?"
"Sure?" I looked up at Claire who caught me while everyone else was sleeping.
"Are you the patient type?"
"Yeah, I am. I have to be, to be Aitana's bestfriend. She's such a handful." I laughed at the girl out cold on her favorite pillow.
"That's nice to hear."
"Let me guess I'll need to be patient with Amelia? Amelia and I are doing great right now." I blushed looking at the pilot in the chair next to me.
"Amelia isn't as simple as she seems...I'm afraid she really isn't mature enough for a relationship yet if I'm honest with you, but I'm not against it...I just need you to be extra patient with her...she's focused. Her future is really promising right now...." Claire looked away from me as if she knew that'd hurt no matter how I tried to interpret it.
"And I'm a distraction."
"You're an athlete Ona, but don't get me wrong you and her are not the same."
"I know Millie has a lot more riding on her shoulders."
"Everything...she's about to make history. Nothing can mess this up."
"So what are you saying?"
"I'm glad you're patient...that's all. You'll need to be that and understanding. I should get some rest...I'll see you when we return to Barcelona." Claire did a single knock on the chair as she stood up walking away to the plane's private bedroom.
Am I nothing more than a distraction to Amelia? I thought I was much more than that to her.
She's made it seem like I am.
Maybe that's not what Claire meant at all. She told me that she was happy for us before. Surely one good race didn't change everything.
"Not tired at all?"
"Not really. You should be sleeping."
"I did some."
"Can you be honest with me?"
"Yeah of course...you okay O?"
"Was the race the most important thing to you this weekend?"
Amelia closed her eyes for a second before answering me.
"This weekend was alot to handle for me Ona. I've been thinking about everything."
"Do I distract you-?"
"Ona don't say that."
"Do I?"
"I have always focused on racing...before I could even fully talk. Its time I learned to balance my life."
"But that is a yes."
"You are not a distraction. You are just something new."
"Just something new?"
"I've never had a girlfriend. I've never raced in Formula One before. I'm having so many new things entering my life right now." Amelia gave a small shrug not seeing the issue.
"Okay...I'm sorry if I am putting any unnecessary stress on you."
"I wouldn't say that."
Millie gave me a small smile resting her chin on her hand. Those beautiful eyes just peered into mine and I felt a bit of pressure lift off of my shoulders. The rest of the flight Amelia and I would exchange looks and a few smiles, but we mostly stayed silent.
"Home sweet home." Aitana smiled standing up on the plane after touchdown.
"We were only gone for the weekend."
"Alexia, I will never miss Catalonia."
"So do you want to spend some time together or did you have plans since you're back home?" Millie turned to me as she held my hand on the and unloaded with me.
"I would love to spend more time with you. What did you have in mind?" I asked her smiling at the fact she wanted to spend time together.
"I had not thought that through yet."
"Mil are you hungry?" Claire turned to her scanning the two of us.
"I actually am...so maybe we can go eat then go back to your place or mine for awhile." She looked at me and I gave a nodd.
"Maybe you can actually tell me about the race like in the drivers seat...the cars look so cool." I began to talk to her about racing and Amelia's face lit up.
I knew she'd love to talk about the race. We really haven't talked about it too much yet. I know she was pissed off about team orders, but I want to know how the rest of the race went. I wonder why she was so tired. Is it just because of how long the race is? I don't think her league races for that many laps.
"I have so much to tell you about the car. It was incredible O!"
"I bet you do."
"I do...is there a way for you to get a good seat for me and Claire to come watch your game next weekend? I'd love to see you play."
"I'm so nervous for you to be at my game....I have been playing really well-."
"If it makes you uncomfortable I can stay home-." I cut her off shaking my head and squeezing her hand.
"No no it's fine. I'd love for you to come to my game." I smiled leaning over to kiss her cheek.
In reality I was absolutely terrified to have her come to my game, but I understand her pure intentions. I just saw that Amelia is the best in her sport and I'm afraid that I am not going to be good enough of an athlete for her to be attracted to me. I was attracted to her when I first met her and then I found out that she was an athlete after I had already fallen for her.
Part of what made Amelia fall for me is the fact that I am a world champion football player that plays for both the best national team and best club team.
"I'll just wait a bit longer O."
"What?"
"It's obvious that the idea of me coming in person to the game would really worry you...I don't want to be the reason you're stressed."
"No, but you want to go..."
"I just want to support you in the best way I can."
"I really appreciate that Millie."
"Eventually I'm going though!"
"Maybe the champions league final."
"What is that the last game of the season?! Haha....Ona! Is that the last game of the season?!" Amelia began laughing uncontrollably at my plan.
"Fine fine before then."
"Whenever you're ready."
"Come on you two!" Claire shouted impatiently as we had walked away from the others.
"Hey Lucy wants to join us for lunch is that okay?" Aitana asked us and I looked to Amelia who gave a silent nodd. She is quite moody when she's hungry.
Lucy and I were briefly introduced, but we haven't talked much. I know Claire didn't speak much to her that one night either so maybe she'll make another new friend.
