"WHAT DID HE SAY?"

When Uhtred exited the tent, Cirilla was quick to approach him. His face was solemn as he avoided eye contact with her.

"He has sentenced you both to death." He whispered, his voice cracking as he thought of not having them in his life.

Although a Cirilla knew this would be their fate, she couldn't help the tears gather in her eyes. Turning, she jumped into the arms of Sigtryggr. The Danes eyes closed, memorising the way his wife's body fit perfectly against his as she held him tight. The feeling of his body brought her comfort and warmth as she held him impossibly close to her.

When she pulled away from him she let her, unbound hands, resting on his face as their eyes connected.

"We are to die." He asked, although it was more of a statement. "I'm sorry." He whispered only for Cirilla to pull him into a deep kiss, her hand grabbing him by the back of the head.
"I'm Sorry." He whimpered. His voice cracking. "I'm sorry." She shook her head, silently telling him to stop apologising.

"Do not be, my love." She assured. "I am happy." A small smile fell onto her face as those foreheads leaned against each other. "I would rather die than spend the rest of my life without you."

"I have failed." He said, his eyes watering. "I let them take everything."

"We have everything." She told him. "All we need in life is each other." She kissed him again, this time a shirt kiss. "We live together, so we die together. There is nothing to apologise for, my love. You have not failed."

Sigtrggyr stared at his wife. She truly was as beautiful as the day he first met her. Even now, he still stared at her as though she were the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was to him. He leaned in, pressing his lips against her soft ones, tasting the salty tears that had fell from her eyes despite her smile.

"You must be the one to do it." Cirilla said, her gaze falling onto Uhtred whose face fell.

"Do not ask me to do that, Cirilla." He pleaded.

"All I ask for is to die at the hands of someone I love. And I have chosen you, my father." His heart broke as she called him her father. "You have treated me as you own ever since my real father died. Even when he was living, he never treated me as his daughter. But you, you taught me to enjoy life. You showed me that I did not have to hide in shame of who I was. You helped me experience life and for that I am forever grateful."

Uhtreds gaze fell to the floor. He didn't realise how much of an impact he had had on he life. It truly broke his heart watching as she cliches onto the armour of her husband, knowing it was their last moments alive.

"I wish to the God's we were not here." His voice broke.

Cirilla turned back to Sigtrggyr, only to see him already staring at her.

"They will cherry for you in Valhalla." She told him, grabbing his face as she smiled up at him.

"No," He said. "They will cheer for us." He corrected, a small smile of his own on his face. "We will be together forever in the halls of my ancestors." He told her, both of them letting tears fall freely down their faces. "Will you stay with me?"

"I will be with you until the sun reaches the moon, my king." She assured, pressing her lips back onto his, for a beige moment before she turned to face her brother.

"My brother." She started, a smile on her face. "Do not feel guilty for j have chosen my own path." His gaze faltered for a moment, losing his emotionless exterior. "I wish to meet you again, in another life time where we will be joined by our father and sister." She smiled, causing him to show his own smile. "I love you." His eyes filled with tears as she approached Uhtred with her husband.

"They may butcher our bodies," Sigtryggr began. "But it is love that makes us stronger." He finished, turning to Cirilla.

Uhtred watched with glazed over eyes, as the couple stared at each other with nothing else but love. When they turned to him, he hesitantly places Sigtryggrs sword in his grasp, before grabbing his own sword, placing it into Cirillas hands who smiled lovingly at the gesture.

The pair took a step back, kneeling on the ground with one of their hands connected to each other as the other held their sword.

Turning her head, Cirilla met the gaze sos her husband who no longer looked afraid. Instead he looked at peace. Uhtred brought a sword to up to Cirillas chest as Sihtric brought one up to Sigtrggyrs but the couple ignored them and continued to stare at one another.

"I love you, my King."

"I love you, my Queen."
