Tuesday
Today, I was scheduled to work with Julia, which made me feel a lot more at ease. Kamala and Walz had been invited to participate in an interview at a local news network, and I knew it was going to be a busy day. It was comforting to have Julia by my side for this assignment, especially since Ruby wouldn't be there for us. Unfortunately, she was removed from the project recently, which left a noticeable gap in their team. Knowing that Julia would be there today made the day feel a bit more manageable, despite the circumstances.
As I stepped into the studio, I felt a familiar rush of excitement. My brand-new camera—Kamala's thoughtful gift—was already set up and ready in my hands. I scanned the room, instantly drawn to the lively group gathered around Julia. She stood at the center, engaging them with her usual warmth and confidence. I made my way over, the hum of their conversation growing louder as I approached, eager to join in and start the day with her by my side.
"Camilla!" Julia called out, her voice carrying above the chatter just as I was about to reach her. She caught me before I could catch her. I stepped in beside her, and we exchanged a quick smile while the others continued their animated conversation around us.
"Are you all discussing the game plan?" I asked, leaning in toward her with a curious look.
"Exactly," she replied with a grin. "I just need to stay close enough to catch everything and jot down notes as they go."
"Well, lucky you," I let out a playful sigh. "I'm stuck in one spot, just hoping I can get some decent shots from the angle I'm given."
"I guess I am lucky," she said with a chuckle. We both laughed together, the light moment shared between us. Just then, a soft chime from a nearby alarm signaled that the interview was about to begin, pulling us back into focus.
"Alright, I'll catch up with you when it's over," I said with a smile, and she nodded in return. With that, I began to make my way away from the group, while Julia followed them to the other side of the studio. I headed toward the corner where I was assigned, thankful to see that my position actually gave me a decent view. From this spot, I could capture some solid angles of both Kamala and Walz during the interview, which was a relief considering how critical this shoot was.
As we waited in anticipation, the studio's energy shifted as the countdown to filming ticked down. The lights dimmed slightly, and the familiar sounds of preparation filled the room. The interviewer began introducing the guests, and I instinctively raised my camera to my eye, ready to capture the moment as both Kamala and Walz were supposed to walk out. My lens focused, waiting for their appearance. But as the introduction wrapped up, only Kamala emerged from backstage, her confident stride taking center stage.
I began snapping shots immediately, capturing her poised entrance, but a flicker of confusion crossed my mind. I had expected both of them to be interviewed together, but Walz was nowhere in sight. Still, I didn't dwell on it too long; the priority was getting the shots I needed. Adjusting quickly, I focused on Kamala, taking each photo with precision, letting the moment guide my instincts.
Of course, I couldn't resist capturing some personal shots just for myself. I zoomed in on the subtle dance of her hands, the way they moved gracefully as she spoke. Her legs shifted in mesmerizing ways, almost like they had a rhythm of their own, and I caught the moment she casually lifted her heel and rested it on the floor, full of her usual confidence. I wanted these shots to feel special, a small gesture of gratitude for the camera she had gifted me—a way of saying thank you in my own language of photography.
