chapter ninety five - motion sickness
Harry Edwards
"You're not going, I won't let you."
"Harry, I need to. Please," Lucy pleaded, holding my hand with both of hers. "I promise I'll be back so quickly that you won't even notice I've been gone."
Trust me, I'll notice.
I turned my eyes to Zayn and Liam, hoping for an idea of what to do. Their eyes shot away instantly, pretending to fiddle with stuff on the table beside them.
"Trust me, Harry."
I wasn't budging my decision not to let her go there; I couldn't. But seeing the emotion being drawn back from her eyes, I could hardly remember what the word "no" meant. This morning, she planned to go to her aunt's old house, where she lived for a couple of years before moving to Silver Spring. It's about a 20-minute drive, most of it on a dirt road.
"I still don't get why I can't come with you," I mumbled to myself, collapsing on the creaky wooden chair.
She stepped closer, smoothing her hand up my neck to my cheek. It sent a heat wave through my body as her touch erupted a feeling in my stomach.
"Because you're one of the most wanted people in the state right now," she chuckled softly, planting a kiss lightly on my mouth. "You would be recognized."
Me being recognized did not compare to the worry I had for her safety. She was potentially walking into a minefield. A minefield that might take her away from me. Forever.
"Okay, fine. But you're going to take this burner phone and call me if you need anything." I exhaled, going through with it even though the lump in my throat said otherwise.
"I'll be fine, Harry. I promise I will call you either way. Just don't spend your entire time worrying about me."
"It's all I seem to be able to do," I shrugged and nudged her gently.
"I'm going to pick my car up from the garage nearby so you can take your car as well," Zayn added, smiling over the newspaper in his hands.
I followed her to the door while holding her hand and before she unlocked it, she pushed my chest onto the wall beside it so I was hidden from outside. Her hand held me there, interrogating my heart.
"I'll see you soon," she whispered into my ear and let go of my hand.
Her black vest hugged her body. The arms, torso, stomach. Everything. Even with the worn blue jeans and old slip-on vans, she was the only thing I wanted. She walked out that door with the car keys and burner phone in one hand, and my heart in her other hand.

The cold wind rattled my skin. The storms had passed for now, but the aftermath was still around. Luckily, there wasn't much damage, just very wet roads and a few power lines out. We got pretty lucky, but I'm unsure how other towns went when we didn't even get the worst of it.
Before I left, Zayn told me one of Harry's guns was in the middle compartment in case I needed it. Knowing that it should make me feel safer because I have something to protect myself. But really, I only felt worse. With Harry's worry for me stuck in my mind like a spell, I tried to focus on what I was here for.
