The moment Lilac opened the ancient tome, the air around her seemed to thrum with energy, a strange electricity tingling through her fingertips. The words on the pages flickered as if they were alive, revealing cryptic symbols and illustrations that sent shivers down her spine.
"What does it say?" Elara asked, peering over Lilac's shoulder, her eyes wide with curiosity and concern.
"Something about the Mercer legacy and... shadows," Lilac replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "It feels like a warning."
Sol leaned closer, his blue eyes gleaming with a mix of excitement and intrigue. "The shadows hold the key to your family's past, Lilac. You must be willing to embrace them."
Orion stepped forward, concern etched on his face. "This isn't a game, Sol. If she gets too deep, she might get hurt."
"Or she might finally uncover the truth," Sol countered, maintaining his confident demeanor. "Secrets only have power if you let them control you."
As Lilac continued to read, she felt a pull toward the shadows, as if they were calling her name. Yet Orion's protective presence weighed heavily on her heart. She wanted to know the truth, but at what cost?
"I need time to process this," she finally said, closing the book gently. "I don't want to rush into anything."
"Then let's take a break," Sol suggested, a playful smile crossing his lips. "How about we explore the town? There's more to discover than just ancient tomes and dusty secrets."
Orion hesitated but eventually nodded. "Fine. A break sounds good. But we need to stay together."
"Of course, brave protector," Sol teased, a glimmer of mischief in his eyes.
Lilac felt a thrill at the thought of spending time with both boys, even as the weight of her discoveries loomed in her mind. "Let's go then. I could use some fresh air."
